    Salvete!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Lord Midol, Dec 24, 2007.

    G'day all.

Iltby pestered me to join so here I am :p

I don't write much anymore, but did a lot of poetry in high school and usually political poetry. I'll probably be getting back into it.

Um. I'm a male? I love dogs and animals. Conservation is my priority along with animal welfare (not rights). I am into politics... so you'll see me in every political discussion that ever arises (and for anyone interested i am a social libertarian with socialist/marxist leanings).

Um, I think that's all thats important?

Just thought an introduction would be wise.

Oh, does "um" have a single "m" or three?

ILTBY, ILTBY! Just unfair that you bring more people to this house of insanity! Anyhow, I use two 'm's in Umm, as you can see - but who really cares?

Here's a basic welcome from all of us. It should be obvious, but in case it isn't, let me explain. The Writing Problems Area is exclusively where opinions on different ways to write, blockages in writing styles and similar problems can be discussed. In the Review Room, you can get critical appreciation and/or analysis of your written material. Behold, you must first review two pieces of writing before posting your own. This is ensure the pieces are evaluated to the most. Other than this, we have Writing Cotnests, weekly and monthly, where you can submit your writing. We also have Word games, Book Discussion and so on, classified under Community interaction. It may interest you if you're just hanging around.

adamant has been kind enough to put many of the things I have mentioned or missed out on in one comprehensive place. If you want to check it out, see the Newbie Packets:
    Noobie Packets! - Writing Forums

Enjoy it here, and don't feel shy to ask for help. We are all here to teach and learn in a mutual environment. And we hope you can do the same.

    Regards and Best Wishes!

Salvete Lord Midol, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

I'm sure there's a great story behind the name. If not, feel free to concoct one! :)

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well!

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room Forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just bulletin boards for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Aah, I'll explain the name :p

'Lord' because he has an ego-problem :) He will refer to himself as God at least once on the forum. And 'Midol', I can't quite remember. It's a period-pain reliever, so implies 'God's gift to women'. I don't know if he knew that when he created it, though. I'll let him expand :p

    Lol, thanks guys.

    ILTBY is 100% wrong.

The lord implies that I am a lord, the god implies that I am god (but I dropped that from my name just to be a good newcomer and people have a habit of finding it offensive.)

The Midol originally comes from my little brother who had a speech impediment, he called me Bottle at first then moved to Midol. Once I found out the meaning of Midol (or what the product is and its uses) I decided that it's very fitting... Lord Midol... Gods gift to women!

Anyway, thanks for the welcome. I'll attempt to review some work in the future! I am working on some new material myself so will have to get a move on reviewing some work.

um can have one or two depending on how you use it. If you want someone to really be thinking you can say, "umm" or if they are just pausing quickly you can say, "um". It is like hm, or hmm. I think you could even get away with more if the speaker is really pausing.

    umm - Definitions from Dictionary.com

    Anyway, welcome to the site!!!
