    sci-fi novella - How long?

Discussion in 'Science Fiction' started by JMTweedie, May 29, 2011.

I'm aiming to publish a sci-fi novella onto kindle but I'm unsure of the ideal word count.

Anybody know what the range is?

Why don't you publish a sci-fi novel instead?

Or why don't you write the story without any prescribed limitations and publish it when you feel the story is done. If it's just on kindle it shouldn't matter right? You might just end up with a novel which is far more marketable.

I think a novella is 20,000-40,000 words . I might be wrong. You can easily google it.

^ I'm already writing a full length sci-fi novel but I have another idea for a shorter piece that's a bit too long to be a short story. I write it when I have breaks from my main WIP.

I want to publish my main novel via the traditional route, however hard that may be.

I want to publish shorter pieces via kindle but if they trun out to be novel length then that's fine. 20,000 to 40,000 seems okay, shouldn't take too long.

    Thanks
