Say... any PMs (cough @Macaberz @Pheonix @Love to Write ) have space for an inserted person? I could potentially do a solo post but it might be either awkward or very very short.

I'd like a little more info about the surrounding buildings/ruins, if possible. Serana's inner archaeologist is eager to explore them. :D What's the architecture like and what can I expect to find inside?

I was inspired to start drawing the caverns & dwarven city, please keep in mind that it is nowhere near finished. Don't look unless you want to risk having your own vision of it ruined: here.

I think it looks pretty already.
May if I ask what kind of program you use for it? And what type of drawing pad, if you use any (which I think is very likely)?

Save you? Quite a slip of the tongue there Keit. Also, we could collab once you've saved Annette (though Fox kinda saved her because he mentioned she got through).

That's okay. Also, I throw my writing into google translate from time to time, to see what it would look like in Dutch. It's never any good really, but I did discover a sound button which will make google translate read the thing for you. It's pretty entertaining to listen to a robotic human reading out loud what you've just written.

Edit: also, I am collaborating with Keit, so I dont think anyone else would have to respond to her question...

    Game Update

Hello again all! Time for another one of my game updates, to point you all in the right direction and hopefully answer any questions you might have had. Welcome to Nv'Idyor, the ancient Dwarven City abandoned long ago.

A bit of history for those that want to know. In its time Nv'Idyor was a bustling hub of commerce, trading minerals and items of craft from the grand tower in the centre. The tower, known then as Kniv, soared up to the ceiling of the mountain and inside bankers would count coins from the top half, while merchants would trade at market in the bottom. The markets were so busy that they would sprawl out of the tower doors and onto the city streets. And while the money makers traded in the city, the miners dug below, bringing out more and more precious onyx every single day from them to sell.

As time passed, a small human hamlet known as Highguard spawned on the southern face of the mountain and the dwarves were only too eager to reveal themselves, their eyes glinting with the thought of more gold. Not only did this boost Nv’Idyor’s economy but it also allowed Highguard to grow at a frightening pace, much to delight of the dwarves.

However, there was trouble brewing below. Many of the mining supervisors had expressed concern with the cavern’s stability underneath Nv’Idyor, worried that the natural foundations were being removed. Yet the senior investors waved them away, arguing their reason and bribing them to keep quiet. They only cared to line their pockets and pillage every bit of value from this mountain of money.

It didn’t happen a year after. Nor did it happen five years later, or even ten. But seventeen years after the warnings, houses on the outskirts of Nv’Idyor began to collapse through the ground and miners became frequently and fatally caved in. The downfall took time, but the city slowly eroded from the edges inwards and eventually the city was flagged as too hazardous, forcing the Dwarves to evacuate. It is a bitter subject between the factions with common dwarves blaming the investors, while bison (noble) dwarves accused the miners of cowardice and greed.

So now the city lies in ruins, each year more structures falling away. Only a half toppled Kniv and a handful of ancient government buildings remain, with the stone foundations like an eaten apple core.

Now to answer @AnonyMouse's question, the architecture of these buildings are rigid, to mirror the dwarves’ hardened spirits and stoutness. Each building is created from bricks of onyx rather than raw stone, providing an organised look and feel. While the place was evacuated, it wasn’t in a hurry so hardly anything has been left behind. The buildings around the central tower of Kniv are government buildings which I previously mentioned. However I would prefer that you guys use your imagination for which type of buildings are in the area. But from a design perspective, housing structures would be fairly small, with doors awkwardly sized for humans, whereas the government buildings would be lofty and grand, in an attempt to show off their greatness as a race.

Ok! Let’s talk about what’s going on. The group has survived the fall of Highguard, but now finds itself in the ruins of an ancient city, with little light and warmth. Everyone is weary and some even injured so together they will rest before moving on. This will give you time for your characters to interact with each other and develop their stories and relationships. I’m looking forward to reading some interesting sub plots from you all, and also some relevant background information. I say relevant because while background is important, it needs to be pertinent to your character’s story. I don’t want to read about so and so’s friend Timmy, who has no completely effect on the writer’s main character whatsoever. So I’m challenging you all to create some interesting backstories, either on your own or with others, which subtly reveal something about your character. Also those that go hunting, I really want you to try and add that element of suspense when going through the darkness of Nv’Idyor; give your passages that nail biting tension, as if something is out there even though it’s nothing.

Finally Malefius plans to explain what Jaros told him soon, but will wait until everyone has had a good couple of posts.

    Thanks all!

    Your Friendly Neighbourhood Fox!
