It could be bad news, but you could also find something fixable like I just did. Something really big! So in another forum someone asked had people ever doxxed themselves. Never heard of it. It's more than just Googling your name, http://hack-world.4umer.net/t5-how-to-dox-somebody Some of the people were turning up stuff about people from their forum names and other information in their profiles. The searches were not malevolent. I don't have a lot of data out there on the Net so my email turned up nothing but my Twitter account and I deleted it since I don't use it much anyway. But my business email was another story. Sure there are dozens of yellow pages spinoffs and my name and address are everywhere, but that's OK, one usually wants one's business in the phone book. Then I saw my name on one of the sites I contract with to do business. It's a city and they post information on businesses they contract with for services, a public disclosure thing. They had scanned all my paperwork including my name, birthdate, signature and social security number. It had been up there for 18 months. It's down now, and I don't think my ID was stolen. I think while ID theft is common, there are billions of people out there so the odds are still low it will happen. But this was an eye opener and a serendipitous find. Thought I'd share.
Haha I did myself and it only brought me up on one thing. I somehow got put on this long list of email addresses from some spammer.
Nothing came up with my email, but apparently for other people a lot comes up. For my business email it was all over the place. Do you have a Twitter or FB account? I believe those show up connected to your email address. I blame them.
simply googling my email address turned up almost 22k hits going back to 2004... mostly from writing sites... since i've given it out many more times than that over the past decade, that means not all of the instances are showing up... fyi, you must put your address in " " to get just your own and not others that have part of yours in them...
I guess now would be a good time to move to Montana and get off the grid while I am still mostly anonymous. Might have to change my name from Garball Jones to something less suspicious like Panfriedperch Aloysius Rainbow Clarke.
