    Signature issue

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by Shadow Dragon, Nov 8, 2008.

If you look under my post you can see that I have two quotes there. I would like to add another, however if I do it tell me that the signature is too long. I've seen people on here will sigs that are four or five lines so why would mine be too long by just adding another one?

I honestly don't know what the signature limiting code does. Only Daniel has access to that. I believe the intnet was to limit signatures to ablut three lines, but I think it was put in place in a hurry, because there were some members putting together sigs that took up an entire screen.

Clearly it's not behaving very consistently at this time.

    Let's test something then.

    Aha!

It's a LIE! BB code is included in the character count.

    If that helps...

Also, it says I don't have permission to use quote-code, but I can.

Wow, even including code it wouldn't be anywhere near five hundred characters. Has it ever said anything to you Emerald about your sig? With mine, if I try to add on it says that it can't be longer than three lines, even though yours is six lines and I've seen a couple people with even more lines in their sig.

Similarly, it tells me to keep under three lines when i try to change my signature. Quite annoying, and why is BB code size not allowed? Surely signature sizes can be limited but not to a harrowing extent.

Nope. When I got that 500 characters error I was going
    1234567890
    1234567890
    1234567890...

So my signature was about 15 lines and it didn't stop me...

perhaps those with longer signatures did theirs before the limitation was set, and it's not taking away what they already have. Newer members, however, are limited.

but who did their sig first? If he wrote his sig right away, before the limit was set, and you didn't write a sig until afterwards, then you would be limited and he wouldn't. I would be very surprised if the system checks every current user and cuts off their sigs when a new limit is set.

The signature check takes place whenever a member tries to edit his or her signature.
Signatures are not checked between changes. Bit some newer members have also been able to create excessive sigs.

i've also noticed this and i'm glad that i wasn't the only one. i had to test my sig about 5 times before i got it below what the site deemed to be the right size and mine is not even near the post limit.

I think we'd all agree there should be some revision on the whole signature limitation..

I'm adding my complaint to the list now... I have a signature, when I go to signature options it says that I have it, it shows up in the preview, etc.. But when I view one of my posts, all there is is a bunch of blank space.

Edit: Nevermind... it just decided to show itself now.

Your sig will not be applied to posts that existed before you had any signature.

I'm not sure what could cause the inconsistency. However, the signature limit does include BBC... so if you're trying to use a lot of color, size, and font tags that could be the reason.

As far as I am aware it will allow five colours only.
