    Sleat.

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by obsidian_cicatrix, Dec 23, 2013.

I've just been in the members picture thread, looking @rhduke's gorgeous pics of ice coated trees. I was musing to myself that the reason that doesn't happen in my neck of the woods, is that it doesn't stay cold long enough, and we get a lot of sleat.

Sleat, as I have typed it, has been underlined by spell checker. As you do, I checked the online dictionaries. No joy. This word is so familiar to me. I'm now starting to ask myself: did I really hear the weather caster use this term?

    Is it really slang?
