Hello, I was wondering if any of you have an editor that's good for preparing ms word docs to go over to Smashworks. Also, I was wondering if any of you do e-book covers or know someone that's good. Perhaps an online portfolio? Any of you have any positive or bad reviews about Smashwords?
Hi, I'm on Smashwords and they are no problem. They provide guides on how to format documents for their site, and it's pretty straight forwards. I do my own covers so can't help with that I'm afraid. Cheers, Greg.
I sent you a PM with links and info on finding yourself an editor and cover-artist online. EDIT: Your post may also violate of the forum rules. I don't think you are allowed to offer jobs in such a way.
I am also putting together an e-book and will get it printed through Smashwords too. For artwork, I highly recommend an art site www.deviantart.com. There are so many artists on there and they routinely sell or give their artwork for book covers. Many do commissions and they are not expensive. All you need to do is browse and if you see something you like, contact the artist and ask them. Eventually you'll find what you need. I use my own art for mine and I've been on devart for over 5 years so I know the community well.
Smashwords is a legitimate ebook publishing solution. They're less slick, but far more liberal and user-friendly than Amazon. They don't quite have the same customer base as Kindle Direct Publishing, but there's still a significant number of readers there. They don't abuse your rights or demand exclusivity, and they're happy to provide you with a free ISBN. They have their own guide to preparing books for publication there: the Smashwords Style Guide. It's a long guide, but the basics are pretty simple. If you still want someone to do the conversion for you there's a list of approved freelancers. Send an email to list@smashwords.com to get a copy of it.
I have been talking with MammaMia through emails. Surprisingly, she said I'm a good writer, just sloppy in parts, so I am going to try to pursue an ongoing editing relationship with her as I have over forty short stories about my life compiled. I will be sure to forward her the Smashwords Style Guide you provided. Thank you so much. Looking forward to eventually sharing some of my work here and actually learning how to write. I've never took even took a course on reading, writing, grammar, story telling, etc, etc, ,etc... Just listened to loads of music my whole life and have always been the guy that prints the lyrics/reads them while listening. I have a lot to learn, that's why I humbly joined this site.
Elance Although I'm still yet to try them out myself, I heard that elance is pretty good. Just search 'smashwords' in the search bar and you'll find a whole list of people who specialise in it.
