Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Dave, and I'm a Software Engineer living in Central New England. I've been programming professionally for nearly 30 years, and was a Research Chemist for 4 years before that, so now you have a pretty good clue to my age. I have not actually published anything, unless you count a couple of Java articles for a company newsletter, and two short stories on my web site. I am currently revising the latter, and that made me click on the link to this site from another forum. Although I consider myself a good writer mechanically, I do not write fiction well. Maybe I need practice, or maybe I just don't have the spark, or the driving obsession. But I do think it is worth exploring. When I retire from the software industry, I cannot see myself settling into an easy chair. That would probably kill me in short order. Instead, I plan to teach science and mathematics at the college level. To that end, I am finally completing my undergraduate degree, and am looking at where I will seek a Masters in Education. I hope that interacting here will braoden my communication skills, and perhaps even stimulate my creativity. Cogito ergo sum - I think, therefore I am. --Dave
Hey there Cogito, welcome aboard. You already seem to have jumped straight into the Lounge and Word Games. And there are plenty of fiction writers here (including myself) who would be happy to help however we can. Good to have you aboard!
There're many people off whom to feed here, lots of knowledgable and talented sorts. Hope all is to your liking, see you around the site.
Welcome to the forum Cognito, I hope you enjoy your time here with all of us. Any questions just ask, someone here is bound to have the answer or know where to find it. ~Torana
Thank you, Alice, Banzai, Gannon, Kit603, and Torana for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to the challenge, stimulation, and critiques I can count on from working (and playing) with other creative souls. I also hope I can contribute in kind.
Hi there. I'll just say ditto to what everyone else said, they seem to have covered it nicely. Cheers.
