I'm writing this to vent before I punch somebody and to make others aware. One of my dishwashers just showed me how fucked up Facebook can be. On his phone was a video of not only child porn, but infant porn. I told him to get that shit away from me before I hit him. Barely able to control myself, I asked (not calmly) what the fuck he was doing with that and where the fuck he found it. He told me it was on a newsfeed on Facebook. I didn't think they allowed porn of any kind on that site. Whoever posted that filth needs to be taken water-skiing down a dirt road. I'm off to attempt to find the correct agency to report this to.
This is from 2 yrs ago: HuffPo: Child Porn Reportedly Goes Viral On Facebook There are three additional reports of earlier incidents. From Gawker, also in 2013: FB also responded at the time, though not everyone thought it was fast enough. This is either a reposting or maybe your employee has a remnant of the video from 2 years ago. I believe your dishwasher is guilty of a crime for sharing it, but I could be wrong.
Some guy I used to go to school (Not a great guy) with actually I think shared that with a good friend of mine (Trust me my bud whom I'm still close with, didn't know what it was at first and he got real sick after seeing it) and I actually didn't believe him when he told me what was on Facebook. Never watched it (obviously....just.....ugh) but I figure most sites sometimes have that kinda crap get through (or something sick) but hopefully the people involved in the making of it will be found and punished if they haven't yet. But yeah I remember that story well as to my friend's rather shocked reaction. In 2013
I don't know what the law is; I am currently looking it up. I know he didn't download it or send it to anybody; he just showed us on his phone. I reported it to the FBI tips website. It sounds like it might be the video you referenced. 5,000 likes! Who in the world would upvote that?

Internet does a lot of good but no doubt there are plenty of predators all over it.
The internet is the greatest tool we have ever had for sharing information and has changed the world. Unfortunately there will always be a percentage of the population that tries to ruin it for everybody. I guess that can be said about anything available to the public though. This kind of stuff makes me want to believe in hell, though.
You said it was on his phone. Was he surfing or was it downloaded? I don't know if the police would be interested in prosecuting. There are a lot of laws they don't enforce. But the man sharing that video with you was illegal to do. Even if one innocently clicked on a video, once they share it with someone else they have contributed to the problem and it is illegal.
Not defending Facebook or anything, since I don't actually use it. But if I found some child porn I could probably link it to this site, and how long would it take for moderators to find and remove? Facebook is one of the biggest websites around. Even with the amount of resources they have for moderation, people share so much inconsequential bullshit. There are is so much content to sift through, it stands to reason that sometimes things will slip the radar, and being as popular as the site is, when something as severe as child porn slips through it ends up seeming like a bigger problem than it actually is. How much sexual content do you suppose gets posted to the site and immediately removed? Even with tools like the ability to report items they still need to verify that the reports are genuine. They can't just automatically remove posts that are reported, since reporting abuse is also a very real problem for them to sift through.
I don't blame Facebook. I can't; I've never even been to facebook unless somebody linked a blog. I blame/hate the douchebags out there that would make, share, or participate in such lewd acts.
If he's your dishwasher, I'd sit him down and get him to understand what's appropriate to show to bosses, strangers. He'll end in jail, and he doesn't sound too bright. So there's a responsibility with this, asides from the 'uh, sick, you asshole,' a most understandable, our instant response. But he could get murdered flashing idiot stuff like that around.
I think @matwoolf is right. People who share this stuff are often ignorant, thinking it's funny. Tell him how you feel about people that share sick stuff. Shame him into learning something.
After my initial reaction, I did invite him into the office and explain the seriousness of what was going on. He was adamant that he was showing me because he thought it was wrong, but I wasn't the only person he showed the video to. @matwoolf , You are correct. We do have a responsibility to explain things like this to those who don't understand.
Even if the police don't go after him personally, deciding that he clicked it without knowing and there's not much use pursuing him beyond that, it's possible that the report to the police could lead them to find the person who posted the material originally.
I got the name off the link he clicked and put it my report. I mean, the girl from Criminal Minds could find it with just knowing his eye color.
Your social reprimand may have had an impact. As for finding the abuser, my guess is that's the same video from 2013 or earlier and the police were unable to find the perp.
