sounds of breathing

    When an author adds the smell of a breathing character's mouth, I sometimes have to hold my breath and wave my hand while reading because the imagined sensation gets too real for me. Probably because I'm highly sensitive to suggestions in hypnosis.

    I was going to suggest Random House's Word Menu and Fowler's as absolutely required reference books.

    Oh well.

    wowsers! I hopped over here to add my two cents and find nickles, domes quarters, fifty cent pieces and whole dollars of information.

    One ofd my personal favorites is Clawed/dragged/synonym air into lungs, through mouth/nose/throat

    But now, thanks to the OP I got a whole library to paste into my onenote writer binder

    Oh my god, I totally forgot about that technique. I love using that. I had the protagonist step almost nose to nose to this character who reeked of stale tobacco and and meat.
