No, I saw that it was a genuine problem because a search for '. ' wouldn't find the case of a sentence ending inside a quote. It can happen in British English too. I didn't know I was pointing that out! In my work I do technical writing, and that's the context in which I'm required to use two-space spacing. Something I have learned!
When I was being taught how to type, I was told to use double spacing. When I was being taught how to use a word program, I was told to use single spacing!
