    Stalker from afar.

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Solaris, Sep 4, 2008.

Well, I've been lurking on this site for a pretty long time now and finally decided to buck up and join. :)
I find this place really inspiring - and love reading all the advice people have to offer. A lot of the topics have been really helpful and informative.
I'm nineteen years old, un-published... and way too big of a perfectionist to actually finish anything I've started as of yet.
But there's still hope right? :p

    Anyway.
I'd love to make some new friends here and contribute anything I can as well as learn from you all!

Hello, how are you doing tonight? I am CDRW, and welcome to our fine forum that is based on writing.

Now that the formal intro is over with, how's it going? I think you'll really like it here. BTW perfectionists are all right, but you can't let that stop you from sharing!

I'm doing pretty good aside from being slightly bored. :p How about you?
I know I'll definitely like it here, that's for sure! I loved lurking here - so I'm pretty positive I'll love actually talking to you all. Instead of just spying on you like a creep. ;)

As far as the perfectionist in me keeping me from sharing that wont be a problem. It's more that I get bored with an idea too quickly and move onto another. But I'm pretty confident in my writing in general.
Although as of now I don't have anything to share.

I'm doing tired because I stayed up too late, and I've got a math test tomorrow. Shout for joy.

I know that feeling. I stayed up way too late as well. Although luckily for me I don't have to worry about unscrambling the numbers in my head! I was never good at math.
Though I hope you do well and don't pass out during the test or anything. :p

Hello Solaris, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

Continue to explore the site. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Welcome to the forums! I'm a perfectionist as well, which generally gets in the way of my writing.
