Okay, so I've been trying to come up with this novel about an boy who was adopted at birth from a pregnant teen and his relationship with his aparents. I'm currently swamped with a bunch of other projects at the moment, so I might not be able to work on it right now. I can see this going many different routes, but I think it would work best as a bildungsroman. Another problem currently impeding me getting anything done about it is my ambivalence about adoption itself: is it a truly generous act, or a tool by the scum of the earth to get ahold of another victim? Before any debates get started, let's stay relevant to the topic at hand. The adoptive parents in this idea are not bad people at all; they have their demons mixed with their angels. Same case with the boy. Themes that come into my mind when thinking about it are the nature of reality, the meaning of love, loss, and the definition of a real family. That's all I can say about it for now. My fanfic is calling me.
A story concept means nothing. What matters is how you write it: the characterization, the flow, the imagery, all of it. There's absolutely no benefit in asking what other people think of the concept! They'll either say,"Sounds great," or, "it sounds like a ripoff of..." If the idea stirs you, write it. Then ask people what they think of the final story. After they tell you what they don't like about it, revise it, usually several times, until you're happy with it or until you throw up your hands and say the hell with it.
