    Story too long

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by kissingtheshadows, Jun 13, 2008.

I tried to post my short story on here, but it said it was too long, and I already edited it before and find nothing that I should leave out in the story. Is there anyway I can seperate it into two sections and post it on here? Or is there a simpler way?

To be honest, you don't want to go over the post-limit for a few reasons.

    1) Often enough, no matter how sad it is, people won't read a very long piece. They want a quick read so they can post how great it was and then get a critique from you. Now, we discourage this, but it still happens, and some longer pieces do get overlooked.

    2) If you post the whole thing up, there is a good chance publishing rights and all that won't really take it. If you are looking for it to be published, it's always better to post excerpts of it instead of the whole piece.

The best way to do it is to find a good point in the story where you can make it a time break. Separate the text with *** or something and post the first half. Then immediately post the second half, or wait for responses first. Often enough, you can take the critique of the first half to help you find the errors in the second, that way you can fix them before you have to have them pointed out. It makes you look smarter, and the piece look a lot cleaner.

Not a problem :) Make sure to critique others. The more you make yourself known for your generosity, the more people return the favor.

If I recall, it's something like 50,000 characters or something. I might be wrong though.

    The limits are:

    30000 characters in a post
10000 characters in a blog entry

Anything longer has to be separated into sections, posted one after another.
