Can anyone suggest a good book that outlines punctuation / formatting tips for a fiction novel? My grammar is OK, but I'm kind of lost with regards to proper punctuation. Sam
Google? I've learned everything I know about writing in school, so in my own opinion I would look up some local writing classes.
I don't know about specific books, but this is a great free resource that tailors itself to any particular issues you have: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/arts/exercises/grammar/grammar_tutorial/page_03.htm This is the best website for learning these kinds of things, because the exercises that come at the end of each topic section are fantastic. Simple, easy to use ...and they stick.
Found a great guide to punctuation, just what I was looking for: http://theeditorsblog.net/2010/12/08/punctuation-in-dialogue/ Sam
I received A Novel Approach: To Writing Your First Book by Jack London for Christmas. It's a quick read and an excellent resource.
I just read almost the same thread on another forum. It's not a book, but the Purdue Online Writing Lab is nice.
