So I am trying to come up with a name for a male character, who will be the antagonist of my story, and I want him to have a symbolic name to indicate the difference between my protagonist and him. I want a name that means something like bitter, angry, warlike, arrogant, or wanting to be a ruler in general or just has the connotation of having those things. For example, I would take the name of a king who was a really cruel ruler even though his name meant something pleasant. Thank you for all your help!
Eh, those are too exotic for me to use. I should have said but my characters are being set in modern day America at a high school. I do like the name Baldrick for a last name so now my character just needs a first name: ___ Baldrick.
Susan, there are zillion sites where they give inspiration for baby names, explaining their roots and meaning. The one I use is http://www.thinkbabynames.com/ but for sure there are many others. Just search the site (tip: a trick not very known is: type in google search site:http://www.thinkbabynames.com/ [no spaces around the colon!] and the google search limits to the contents of this site] HTH
Thanks for all the suggestions. I do like that site recommended and I will definitely file it away for future use. I have decided to name my antagonist Derrick Baldrick. Thoughts/reactions?
