Congratulations to the winning entries of Writing Forums first ever Summer Contest! 1st place goes to @matwoolf for his story Painted Lady. 2nd place is a tie between @Viridian for Fred and @BookLover for Freedom and Responsibility. Rather than have a run-off for second place, we have chosen to honor the win for both writers. I will get with each of the winners over the weekend to make arrangements for their prizes. Thanks to everyone who participated with great entries that made the contest a success.
That is so cool, I love @matwoolf's posts. To see him write a story and win, it's great. Well deserved. And cheers to everyone. The votes in this contest were so evenly distributed everyone should be proud.
Here's to the four of us that got one vote or less: I'm proud to be in the company of writers I really do admire. Otherwise I'd feel bad about my entry.
Congratulations @matwoolf, a well deserved win, and thank you sooo much to those that voted for me, i'm chuffed to flippin bits.
That was beautiful, and very inspiring. Congratulations to the winner and a big thank you to everyone who entered!
Hey hi everybody, I haven't drunk my tea yet. That's really good for me, eh, I never win anything. Brilliant. I'd first like to thank my wife for allowing me to spend the entire week transfixed to by a tiny bar chart on Writing Forum's website: 'Come on Painted Lady.' It was a very tense situation, dramatic in itself Ah @GingerCoffee don't be down in the mouth, I normally come last in these sort of...you'll win the next one. I really enjoyed the other stories - 'Fred' sticks in the mind, and 'Freedom and Responsibility' was particularly well-written, lovely prose. I spent some time on mine, it BLAH BLAH doesn't come easy, and there are still flaws, but the character did come alive for me: I think that's very interesting - for the future, developing characters.BLAH BLAH BLAH Thanks for the love, team, and have some back, Mat x
We can analyse all the stories now, phew, speak freely at last. @Steerpike has started a thread. FYI, my 2015 career earnings now stand at 75$ - I shall probably e-mail Inland Revenue this afternoon, have 'author' inserted among my details.
Actually, somebody said it well on another related thread. Getting few votes doesn't mean your story is bad. It just means it wasn't everybody's favourite! It might have been everybody's second-favourite. We can only vote for one.
Congrats Matwoolf and the 2nd place finishers! There is no question in my mind that all three of your pieces were superior to my humble "Sister Angelica," which I had fun writing and entering the contest got me more involved in WF, which I believe will continue. And thanks to the two readers who voted for my story (yes, I voted for myself)-- you must have also grown up in a parochial school. . Loved the contest, loved all the stories, now back to my novel.
Congrats @matwoolf! Glad I entered the contest. It was really fun and I was proud to finish a piece. It wasn't well received, but I think I'm getting a thicker skin. Anyone in the same boat, remember, it's brave just to put your writing out here.
@edamame I agree that it is good to just get your work out there. Also, in a contest like this, even if you don't get any votes it doesn't necessarily mean you don't have a quality story. If you were to take the 10 best short stories ever written and ask a group of people to vote on their favorite, some of the stories might not receive votes. They're still good stories.
And though it probably goes without saying, just in case, anyone who wishes to repost their entry in the Workshop for further critique is absolutely welcome to do so.
BTW, I've not forgotten to emblazon the winners' member badges with their medals. I'm experiencing a bit of automobile difficulty and the computer that has all my templates is at the other house. As soon as my Mot-Town troubles are remedied I will get me to the anvil and with a quickness.
Yeah, I'm quite depressed about this. Today even, I took Molly outside, took a few snaps to just cheer me up a little bit, you know? I mean when @whatsisface won the sci-fi, I mean, you know, I know what I mean?
