I'm on the Cyclops sucks side of things, but even I was a little annoyed with how quickly they killed him off in 3. On the flip side, I'm occasionally a fan of his kid (er, sort of kid), Cable. Of course, 60% of the time, he just comes off as a over-the-top version of his daddy... And the presence of Remy in this new movie just makes me nervous. I may well have said it enough by now, but Baby Gap Gambit isn't my thing... I realize Origins is a prequel, but meh... their continuity is all wonky. He'd better, at least, have an accent >.<.
I like Cable for the most part. I think it has a lot to do with his badass image, lol. I'm so nervous about Gambit. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm just hoping they don't screw him up. Actually, I'm pretty nervous about the Wolverine movie in general. I'm hoping it's good; the preview was cool, so it has to live up. ....what I DON'T like is apparently they're making some teeny bopper X-Men movie with some of the younger students.... that's stupid. I want to see the Magneto/Xavier movie, but to make ANOTHER movie about the younger mutants? I already know it's going to be campy and full of lame romance and dramatics.
yeah theyre making a children of the atom movie, as well as a magneto x-men origins, so at least you get one of your wishes granted. i just dont get why theyre making so many spinoffs but no x-men 4...
I watched Hulk vs. Wolverine last night. I realize it had a second part, but I don't really care about Thor... Heck, I don't even really care about Wolverine, and I can't stand Banner ... but, yeah, it had Deadpool, and I'm a sucker for that. It wasn't bad. The violence was... strangely awesome. The Deadpool moments were gold though. It was absolutely hillarious, and in the end that's totally all that matters...
LOL, I have such a soft spot for the Hulk/Bruce Banner ever since seeing the Hulk of 2008 movie. I can't help it! Edward Norton is like my favorite actor and I think he's sexy, and um...... DON'T MIND ME! Fangirl here. -_-' ....about the Magneto movie. I'm looking forward to it, because Magneto is awesome in my book! Definitely one of my favorite villains. Top 10 easily, possibly top five.
Hey, don't get me wrong, I only said I don't like the Hulk... Edward Norton is another matter . Ever since I saw Fight Club all those years ago, I've been just a little obsessed with him, myself. I saw a Magneto back-story comic on the shelves a few weeks ago. I'm not a big Magneto fan, but even I was a little tempted to pick it up... the cover was so well drawn... But, I have enough to read as is - can't be picking up other storylines when I can barely follow the one's I'm commited to... which is why I haven't picked up X-Men Noir... even though it sits there... taunting me... Which is a roundabout way of saying that I would totally be interested in a Magneto movie. If I don't have the time or money for his comic, I might as well watch the movie.
Yeah, Edward Norton is definitely one of my favorite actors.... he actually can act and it of course doesn't help that he's attractive. Ooh, yes, Fight Club is what made me really like him as well! I was watching that movie earlier today, too. He can pretty much sell any role/character to me. Yes, even Bruce Banner. LOL. What was the Magneto comic called? I really need something NEW to read. You seem to have good taste, Penny. Recommendations, please!
Aww, thank you. Lol, you seem to share a lot of my tastes too, ink. Unfortunately, the only comics I really follow, I follow because the character I latch on to got all mixed up in their storyline. In DC it was Catwoman. In Marvel it's Gambit and Deadpool. I got a little bored with the DC universe, Gambit's solo stuff is sort of... dead. Sooo, these days it's pretty much Deadpool - not that I'm complaining. Cable and Deadpool ranks way up as a favorite comic series. I can't recommend it enough. (Seems like every comic reader I speak too read and loves it, and somehow it still got canceled... go figure.) I've branched off with the Thunderbolts lately, and that seems pretty good so far. I'm such a lazy comic reader. I like to wait for the tpbs and am actually annoyed that they waited until now to put the first Deadpool series together into handy, graphic novel installments. I'm too much of a packrat to ever sell my back issues, but I'm sure I'll still blow money on the tpbs... ::sigh:: glossy pages in sequential order... I desire them more than trying to sort through where the annuals, mini-series oneshots, and crossovers belong in a series. The tpbs are also the only time I ever read main storylines like The Messiah Complex and the Civil War, House of M, ect, ect... All of those have their good moments, but I haven't really pursued any other Marvel characters beyond their appearances there. Now I'm just waiting, impatiently, for Messiah War. The Magneto comic was Magneto: Testament. Like I mentioned earlier, it didn't make it out of the store with me... it just looked very tempting.
anyone know if there's a superhero somewhere out there with this power: person is infected with deadly virus. if threatened, uses any kind of weapon to wound the enemy and draw blood. person will then cut his own hand open and make blood to blood contact with enemy. enemy is immediately infected with virus, seizures for a few seconds, then dies, body decomposing rapidly into human ash. it seemed original at first, but i could be wrong.
A friend of mine and I started a group on myspace called the Scott Summers is a pansy club. He's definitely the Superman of the X-Men, and I don't dig that at all.
Agreed completly. X-Men should be the flagship series of Marvel, it's by far is and always was the most well developed of any mainstream Marvel properties. I'm not big on Spiderman either. I think what always distracted me the most was the just awful humour that they try to add in every book. It just never sat right with me. I'm not saying I don't like spiderman, there has been some spiderman stuff I've read and like in the past but in general - I choose to pass on him. My personal favorite Marvel property has been Thor, who is critically underrated and seems to be very hit or miss. I don't know, I've always been sucker for mythology and all that jazz so maybe that's why I fell in love with him over the years. If you've never read Thor, now is definately the time to jump on it. The books they've come out with in recent years are absoulety excellent (Sons of Asgard, Blood Oath etc). Outside of Marvel I have to say my favorite mainstream franchise has always been Hellboy. Again, probably because I've always been a sucker for mythology. It's sleek, it's original and unlike Spiderman the humour is good. I can't wait for the next issue of Wild Hunt to come out. And hands, the comic book series ever I have to say - it's a bit of below the radar title, i read scans of a good chunk of it a couple months ago - Transmetropoltian by Warren Ellis. It's not one for the kiddies but, it's incredibly brillaint. It's so genius I can't even explain it. It has influenced me as a writer entirely, it's no-holds-barred use of the most hilarious satire I've ever seen, it's "f*** you" attitude and it's creativity. I mean, come on, you can't go wrong with a title where there's a gun that makes people poo themselves, talking coffee makers on drugs, and a lot of other things I can't say here (that's a good way to put it).
I'm all for adaptation purposes. We're all artists here and we're all for the emotion and representation. I haven't read any Spiderman comics, but I've listened to Spiderman fans and they told me why they don't like the films so I can understand their reason, I don't even find them really good either, seems a lot like fluff to attract a broad audience. I felt the same with X-Men III as well and I felt that Watchmen could have been done a lot better as in drawing in people into an experience they might not have witnessed because they didn't read the book. Adaptations are supposed to adapt and adapt well. I'll never let that happen with one my works.
Can any of you big comic buffs help a guy out? I just finished reading watchmen (i like it but it's not great) and i noticed a recurring thing in some books. The comedians symbol (the smiley face) appeared in other books, like metropolis (with three eyes instead of two) and deadpool's original run. What's that about?
Watchmen was a big milestone in comics. It was amongst the first most recognized deconstructions of the superhero genre; is the only graphic novel in time's list of best literature of the 20th century, etc. So it was kind of a big deal, and I'd assume people like to give it a shout out in their own works.
Well, it is just a smiley face... The smiley face is a pretty widely-used symbol. I've never read Metropolis (though a three-eyed smiley face sounds familiar), but a smiley face in Deadpool? You're not talking about his symbol, are you? I thought I saw more of a connection when Wade pulled a Rorschach and told Juggernaut to give him back "his face" in Circle Chase.
I thought the three-eyed smiley face was in some alien invasion movie back in the 90's or 80's wasn't it?
All of the Spiderman digs are sort of making me sad. Don't know why, I'm not a very big Spidey fan. OH WELL. But I do agree, I think the X-Men are better, overall. The selection of characters, storylines, and just the concept in itself is much better. I preordered it off of Amazon, lol. I looked it up on the web and it sounded too good. Thank you so much! I really do need some good + new material. We seem to have pretty similar tastes so if you come across anything else awesome, lemme know! Reeeeeeeally? :O That appeals to me! I just may join this myspace group, hahaha. Can't stand him.
The writer uses smiley faces instead of *s, it's only inside of the text blocks but it's used constantly. I think that's just a believable character trait. I mean deadpool is so embarrassed about his real face that he won't talk to someone over the phone if he doesn't have his mask on.
You know, I never really paid attention to it - but thinking back on it seems like you're right. I'll have to go reread my back issues some time. They recently put the original Deadpool run (listed as Deadpool Classic) into TPBs. I haven't gotten around to buying it yet since I have all the issues (except New Mutants, but that's Liefeld - blegh) and can't justify blowing that sort of money, but it's still a good excuse to reread... And he's mellowed out about his face. After Siyrn he seems to get better about it, gradually. In my favorite run of Deadpool, if I haven't said it enough by now, Cable and Deadpool (It should be a law that only Fabian Nicieza is allowed to write his character) he wanders around without his mask quite a bit. Granted, he still seems pretty ashamed - I think they got that out of the way right of the bat with the "If Looks Could Kill" arc at the beginning. He disguises himself at the beginning and is surprised that taking off the... erm... fake skin he's wearing doesn't "gross out" his employers. He then proceeds to do something very stupid (no surprise) so that they can sort of assimilate him and fix his looks. I'm sure there's some deeper theme of belonging there, but he mentioned looks the most. He also hangs out around Weasel, Cable, Syrin and co. without the mask, and is only seen wearing a hat pulled low when out of costume and out in public. I think the mask thing is more just his identity. When he answers the phone, people ask for "Deadpool" not Wade - so he goes and puts on the mask and then he answers. I think it's more of a funny quirk than a looks thing. He's just used to the mask. I seem to remember an issue where he was playing strip poker where the mask seemed to be what he left on regardless of the rest of his body being scarred/tumory... ::sigh:: I love Deadpool - and rambling, apparently.
Haha yeah, its popularity kind of died out after the hype and excitement from the last movie wore off, but maybe the Wolverine movie will revive it. Whether or not it does, I still really enjoy seeing "Scott Summers is a Pansy" everytime I get on myspace.
I really like Batman and Danny Phantom. Spider-Man's powers are cool, but I don't like his personality. Speaking of Marvel, my favorite member of the X-Men has to be Nightcrawler. I'm also looking forward to the Thor movie. Does Goku count as a superhero?
I've been watching Batman: the Animated Series ALL DAY. I really love Batman, lol. I feel like I sound obsessed when I talk about him (that's what I've been told by friends on myspace/facebook AND by friends in person), but he's just so brilliant in my book. This cartoon is one of my favorites from my childhood. It was crafted so well. I pretty much love all of the characters. ....except I think the Penguin sucks in this interpretation. Not that I'm a big fan of the Penguin in the first place, but I just think he's so BORING. My god, somebody put him, Superman and Cyclops on some far away, remote island, PLEASE. ....let them fight to the death. I can see it now.
\ Yes! Batman was one of the best animated series from the 90s. It was probably the least juvenille and campy of the superhero shows. I remeber that always being an attraction for me even though I never really read too many of the batman books out there. The X-Men cartoon was excellent too. I'm so glad that Disney XD (one of those upper 100 channels you never watch) is showing all the old animated series again. They are eating up my TiVO space at the current. Being only twenty mintues long each at most I pump them out easily in my downtime.
