AJ saw Savvina run off, and didn't entirely know what was going on. Had Derek done something to drive her away? A second ago they acted like a boyfriend and girlfriend. He didn't understand love at all.

AJ then turned to Jesse.

"Jesse," he said quietly, "What really happened to you? Why were you bleeding?"

 

Jesse stared at the ground slowly. "You won't like hearing this AJ, but.... My fauther isn't a very nice person sometimes and neither is his freinds. Sometimes when he... drinks too much he enjoys hurting me."

 

AJ's eyes opened wide.

"Was he the one that hurt you?"

A new kind of sensation burned in AJ, and he didn't know what it was. He clenched his fists and waited for Jesse's response.

 

"Yes he did, AJ," Jesse said in a low voice. "It's alright though... I'll be fine."

 

AJ felt his lip quiver. When his dad was alive, he wouldn't even think of doing something so horrible. He didn't know what it felt like to be in his friend's shoes, but he did know that it must have been pretty painful for Jesse. He knew that he couldn't possibly feel the pain that she went through. AJ then realized, "Why? Why would anyone do that?"

 

Jesse said so quietly that she didn't even know if AJ heard, "He says he does it because he... loves me."

 

This confused AJ.

"But you don't hurt someone if you love them," AJ's innocent thoughts said aloud.

 

Splatter. Splatter. Splatter. The steps were not very forceful, but they produced an alien music which Savvina couldn't tolerate. Another set of symphonies played in her head. Some serene, some terrorizing. Her heart bounced around as she waded across the hallway, over to Room 41.The numbers were so blur. In fact, everything was blur. The curtain wounded around each other and then suddenly let go. The table lamp seemed to dance around and nibble on the tube lights. Her memories were fuzzy. She didn't remember her own name for the time being.

She only noticed a young boy, just about her age - she didn't know how she came to think of that, but that was true, she knew. His blond hair was simmering in the sun which evoked a shade of orange and golden in his hair. His blue eyes were wrestling with Savvina's outlook, perhaps he had already seen her - but never too well. He smiled, and Savvina immediately knew who he looked like - though his hair color and age factor were contradictory, something made her feel so sure of it.

"Julian?"
The boy didn't respond. Suddenly, Savvina felt alone, as if no one was there.
"Julian!"
She screamed, and then a painful question followed:
"Are you doing all of this? Are you the voices in our heads? Are you the devil behind this?"
Savvina felt someone behind her, and spun around, her curls oscillating around Julian's neck.
"Yes. It was I."
He removed her delicate curls, a buoyant smile on his face. Savvina backed away, a feeling of disregard inside of her. Tears burst out of her eyes and wet her eyelashes, which fluttered frequently.

"W-why? Why Julian?"
"There is a lot to explain to you, Savvina. I am only a protector from the greater pain. The pain of having all your generations destroyed. Of the pain which shall induce a paralytic condition on the whole of mankind if you do not take a stand."
"So you are making us fear things in such intensity?"
Savvina turned away, dismayed. Julian placed his hand on her shoulder, murmuring:
"No. But I am the voice in your head. And you need to talk to me. Everyone does."
"Everyone?"
"Yes, Michael, Jesse, Chastity and AJ. And Julian."
Savvina gave him a confused look, petrified.
"Wait - but you're Julian."
"That I am, Savvina."
"But...what..."
"There is a lot to explain, my dear. Too much. You must find me, Savvina."

"Find you?"
Savvina felt time was running out. Her blood pressure kept jumping and she could feel her nerves swelling.
"Yes, find me. You must find me under the labs."
"What? But how? And..."
Before Savvina could say anything, a painful feeling ran within her. The same feeling she felt when she fell asleep.
"Run Savvina! Time is out. RUN!"
Julian's voice broadened as he spoke, and his face started to melt. His eyes fell out and Savvina screamed, realizing she was about to get trapped.

Savvina ran the fastest she ever had. The doors were closing. The lights were going out. The voices were vanishing. The people were dissolving in thin air. She screamed again and again, but no voice came out. Her bones moved elsewhere while her flesh elsewhere, and she felt her hair starting to bite her like snakes. It continued until she felt a man's hand on her wrist, shaking her cautiously.

"Savvina! Savvina, wake up."
Savvina woke up, her eyes tired. She looked around and felt like breaking her own body. She felt so stressed out.
"What are you doing here?"
Derek asked, a frown on his face.
"Julian..."
Derek shook his head, and then spoke softly:
"Who's he?"
"The guy...the guy in Room 41!"
"Savvina, you are in Room 41."

Savvina jumped from her bed, cautiously examining it. There was no one there. Not a single trace of Julian.
"But...but he was here!"
Derek stood up, saying carelessly:
"Probably a dream. This room hasn't been occupied for a month."
Savvina shook her head, sure of herself. Derek pulled her up, solacing her:
"You're tired - you ran into a room and fell asleep on a bed. So odd."
He then pulled her again, almost forcing her to follow him.
"Come on, let's go see how Jesse is doing."

 

Jesse didn't know how to answer this. She just hated love and what it had done to her. "Love isn't always a nice thing...."

 

AJ didn't exactly know what she meant, but he would take her word for it. Jesse knew more than he did- after all, she was older. But he still pondered on what that meant. "Love isn't always a nice thing..." the memory of her words repeated in his mind.

AJ looked at her state. He hoped that she would be okay.

 

After her last comment, they stood in silence for a while. She heard an ambulance go by in the stillness of the night - a sound penetrating through her like water in a stream. She felt as if it was someone she knew - not carried, but was. Somehow, her own thoughts no longer made sense. She looked back up at the man, but there was no one to look back up to. Something rang in his place I got impatient. She thought about the people Savvina was with - the people with fears who heard the voice that she did too. The people who could be her help and her best friends if they weren't so horrifying. She wished she could be brave, but she fancied herself brave, actually, because bravery isn't someone who isn't afraid of anything - it's a person who's afraid but does things anyway.

 

Derek and Savvina entered the room once more, where AJ and Jesse had been talking. Michael had gone to buy some sodas for them, so he was nowhere to be seen. Derek smiled and sat beside Jesse, exclaiming:
"The doctors say you can leave. But I think I'll have to leave behind Savvina. Her head's going crazy."
Savvina immediately stepped forward, her eyes full of rage.
"I'm just fine. And...and I will be back home just well."
She then remembered something.

Savvina smiled, knowing she had to get rid of Derek.
"Derek...could you please bring me a Disprin? My head is hurting like hell."
Derek got up right away, happy to serve his 'love'. As soon as he left, Savvina closed the door and spoke up.
"Okay, I have to tell both of you something. Jesse - you already know we have this connection - and AJ, you have to understand. Are you afraid of something, dear? Because you must be. There's a connection I have with you, Jesse, Michael, and a few others. Come on, think hard."

 

AJ clutched his Tigger tight. "I'm afraid of being alone."

 

Savvina smiled, and immediately gave AJ a hug.
"Probably I can help you with it for now."
She then starting walking around the room, explaining herself.
"I talked to...Ju-...someone. He wants to meet us under the labs of Ultizen. I know where they are, and we need to get there as soon as possible. But I have to get everyone first! As soon as Michael comes back, you tell him about this. Then, you should meet me sharp at 6 am at my house. It's lucky that we have a national holiday tomorrow, so we have to make best use of it. I'll go get Chastity and Julian."
Before AJ and Jesse could comment, Savvina ran out of the hospital room, and down the hallway, out of the building.

Julian was easier to find than Chastity, but she was still angry with him and decided to get Chastity first. She wasn't too happy going back at her house, which wasn't very welcoming anyway. She knocked the door, and almost as if someone had been waiting for the door to be knocked, it opened.
"Chas-"
A woman started desperately, but stopped when she saw Savvina standing there instead. Her face became pale as Savvina started:
"Hi, I'm here to see Chastity. Is she home?"
The woman shook her head and then broke into tears.
"That is the trouble! She is not home, and it's so late! Oh, I've even called Inspector Richard. He hasn't found her yet. Dear, please, if you find her let me know."
Savvina nodded, patting the woman's shoulder and without more ado, running away. She felt a strong impulse which told her to go back to the Pizza Plaza. And so she did.

The place was closed, but there was still a feeling which told her to get inside. She looked around for a secret door, and she actually did find one! Actually, it was the way to the basement. But that was just fine.

As she made way to the second floor, she made sure her sandals didn't make too much noise. Chastity's breathings became louder as she finally stepped on the second floor, with a man in front of her.
"Chastity?"
She spoke softly, almost to herself.

 

AJ looked around as everyone was speechless.

"Does anyone know where the Ultizen is?"

 

The footsteps got louder, the elevators dinging as they went up - up - up, and Chasity's eyes darted around as her heart beat faster - it was so late, and no one but a burglar would be coming; but it wasn't a burglar who stepped out of the elevator - it was Savvina.

 

Savvina walked cautiously towards Chastity, who seemed to be afraid of her. The man she visualized was gone. Savvina smiled.
"It was Julian."
She whispered to herself as she walked towards Chastity.
"Chastity...it's me, Savvina. You have to come with me. You're afraid of something too...aren't you?"
Savvina remembered those times they used to be friends.
"Are you afraid of me too, Chastity? Me, your best friend?"
She spoke painfully, tears occurring in her eyes.

 

Suddenly, Savvina didn't seem so scary. Chasity narrowed her eyes - one person wouldn't bother her, one person was okay, but the fact that it was Savvina made it akward. Her history with Savvina embarrassed her, and that latest meeting made it even worse. Still, she took a deep, shaky breath and decided to brave this out.
"I'm sorry I lied to you so many times. You don't deserve that." Chasity thought she detected a faint smile, but she wasn't sure.
"I'm not afraid of you," she continued, "I just . . . I was just embarassed because I was trembling there in the corner, and because of what my mom did. I was, however, scared of your friends. Not any of them in particular, mind you, but the whole lot of them - it's called agoraphobia, and I started to develope it right after my dad died. Then, when my grandma was fou - passed on, I got worse. Finally, I just . . . got to the point where I couldn't leave the house." She spoke smoothly, wondering how she was doing it.

 

Charisma smiled. She had been waiting for these words for days - Chastity had no idea indeed.
"I...understand. I'm afraid of something too. Somniphobia - fear of sleep. And..and I think I know how to get rid of it. You don't need to be sorry - I...I forgive you."
Savvina moved closer, but knowing her friend's fear, proceeded very slowly.
"Will you come with me? I promise, I'll keep you safe, away from my friends. But you have to meet someone. He's...a very good person. He'll help us all."

 

Chasity furrowed her brows. It was a reflex, but she did it purposefully. She waited for a moment, then let her expression soften.
"A . . . very nice person?" She asked, but she said it more to herself. "Where? I - I mean, how can I trust that you'll -" she broke off - that didn't sound right. "What I mean is, it's a big world out there. I'd rather not expirience it. But . . . obviously I'm a part of something, and so in spite of that fact that this will probably be the worst expirience of my life . . . I'll go." She felt absolutely sick as the words escaped her mouth - not optimistic and later crushed as usual, but horribly, undeniably nausiated.

 

Savvina smiled, and fell down on her knees, helping Chastity up.
"I promise, he'll help. I know he'll help."
She then hugged Chastity, crying.
"I just want everything to become alright. Come now, let's go."

 

Chasity stared wide eyed into the wall behind Savvina, feeling stiff as she cried softly and wrapped her arms around Chasity. She liked the secure enclosed feeling of a hug, and smiled, patting her confident friend's back.

 

Savvina stopped crying, pulling Chastity up. Chastity looked happier, and Savvina felt happier. Her face was worried, but beautiful. Savvina let Chastity put her arm around Savvina's shoulder, and spoke slowly:
"Right now, I'll drop you home. Since you hate crowds, you close your eyes and I'll help you back home. I'll pick you up tomorrow, okay?"
She started walking towards the stairs, trying not to sound imposing.

 

Chasity smiled. She leaned down and grabbed her back, slinging it over her shoulder and clutching the handle tightly.
"Okay. That's fine."

 

Savvina walked Chastity the way home, hoping that the noises from the street won';t frighten her. Luckily, it was eleven now and unlike Las Vegas, this place slept at ten. The most to be heard were occasional cars or street hawkers, and if someone were real unlucky, a rapist or robber. Fortunately, Savvina got Chastity home in one piece. Or she thought.

Savvina rang the doorbell, and just as before, the door flung open and there stood Chastity's mother. Her face bloomed with happiness, and she screamed delightfully:
"My baby!"
