In a light hearted short story I want to write, the main idea is a boy being put in the body of a cat. However, what do I do with his body, as he will need it back, and I need the other characters to not be too stressed out over this, so I can focus on the jokes. The idea is that a crazy evil scientist creates a machine and attempts to put human minds into animals, to see if they can harness the abilities. I've had the idea of putting the human body into some sort of coma, but that won't fit the tone I'm going for. I've had the idea of saying he's in a care home, so if he was missing, he wouldn't care about them that much, and not feel the need to explain his absense. I've probably explained this really badly, so please ask any questions!
That's what I'd go with. Put it in a mental institution or something and have all sorts of fun. Would be hillarious to read about a cat in a human body. lol
Check out All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku. It's a comedy about a cat in a human android body.
i can just picture a human body suddenly inhabited by the mind of a cat! rubs up against strangers purrs scratches upholstered furniture pees on shoes in the closet licks his hands tries to lick his you-know-whats and so on... what a hoot!
Okay, that would be briliant. I did toy with the idea of having the cat in the body, and I was going to have it run away into the woods or somthing, and I didn't really want to have to have some of my characters dealing with a missing friend. It would be very funny.
Don't forget the litter box, and the fascination with any shiny or dangling objects. Also, consider going into heat, unless it's a children's book.
The human body with the cat mind could also shrink down to a small size and tag along with everybody.
For what it's worth, Marion Babson did this in _Nine Lives to Murder_. That's not to say that it couldn't be done again, but I thought I'd mention it. ChickenFreak
An interesting story... Wouldn't the human body just start acting like a cat though? I mean if your mind was put in an elephant it's still your mind, but in an elephant. So I'd think the body would just start acting like a cat as the body has a cats mind. Though I do have an idea (If this isn't a children's story) of putting a terrible pun in like "That boy is such a pussy." Just a thought
I was toying with having the stereotypical evil scientist (Who's a radioactive mouse but in a human body) Demanding that he see's the cat's owners' Pussy... We'll see
First impressions: Zounds! All of my fur has fallen out...*looks down*...Ye Gods! Surely I'm wasn't always this portly? MY PAWS! *looking at hands* They have become hideously deformed...oh my poor claws... *Licks hand and rubs it over his head to wash himself* E'GADS! A BALD SPOT!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY TAIL!!! I'll bet that damned dog stole it!
I'd stay away from the "pussy" puns unless you really plan to take the crude approach to the entire piece. It's fine if the entire piece is aimed at the gutter level (which is perfectly valid), but it definitely does not go well with whimsy. When you explore it from the cat mind in the human body side, don't forget to misjudge scale. Inevitably, the catlike human will show less than catlike grace trying to charge through a space the cat would expect to race through with centimeters to spare.
