Indeed. There are countless accents and regionalisms in the U.S. And of course there's the non-accent that really is an accent, as you said.
I always thought the Californian accent was the accepted on since that is where all the movies and half the tv shows are made. That is the accent you hear most. I could be wrong. I just want my accent to be the American standard.
I'm not exactly sure what kind of accent I have. Probably the non-accent with a little bit of a Southern accent (especially when I curse, *shrug*) but I do know that when I get excited, I speak in a really high pitched voice that makes me sound like a mouse.
I was born on an American Army base in Germany, where I spent the first seven years of my life. From there, I've lived in Massachusetts, Korea, Hawaii, Maryland, and North Carolina. My family is from Puerto Rico. My accent has changed bit by bit throughout my life. I don't have a distinctive one at all, but it's certainly a mongrel.
Er, I was born elsewhere, but raised here in Canada. My family has an odd way of pronouncing things (for example, the word "stupid" tends to get lengthened into "se-too-pid"), and previous exposure to an editor and author in the UK also landed me with a minor British accent. So...yeah.
lol- i'm sooooo glad my asian accents are gone, especially 'cause i'm not the least bit asian. good to be sure everyone knows that english is my first language. now i only sound a little funny when i talk to my boyfriend.
lol. you're right. i guess i just never stopped to consider it. i'm so used to hearing my "american accent" all day that i don't even really consider it an accent.
I am attempting to post a video I made a while back for a friend just to get my voice/accent on here. The content is kinda irrelevant, but the point is...I am talking with my Northern Californian Accent. I think you need to have the volume hella turned up because the mic on my camera sucked.
Why don't you try speaking with it and post it here? My accent, which has been mixed into nothing distinct: http://www.mediafire.com/?1fxmjyntoqd People generally think I'm from England or Australia, but people from those places react to those comments with .
Caaarrmina! Lovely accent you have a very sweet voice! Nice pics of england btw, it is indeed cool in alot of place and therefore deserves a place on your wall
So, borrowing some courage from Carmina (Jen) I decided to also post a video. It also doubles as a holiday greeting to all! (And of course the initial image is ridiculous right? Oh well....)
Haaha, gay for colour. No but i did notice that you talked about your hair very swish. I think your voice sounds cool!
I think everyone should post a video. I would love to actually hear hte accnets we all have. And, seeing everyone's pretty faces would be cool too.
