The sounds of feet on my front verandah and children calling out for my kids to go play... <I think they hear the typing on the keys, or maybe they can hear us breathing...>
"In the Name of God" by Dream Theater. Everyone in this band is absolutely fabulous. I love the riffs in this song... the music actually jumps. Love the drummer too. One of the best bands around technically, lyrically... Great song questioning how people can get away with evil deeds 'in the name of God.' No matter your religion or lack of one, it's really a song that opens your eyes.
"Mirror" by Barlow Girl. Not a big fan of the band seeing as they put God into every.single.one of their songs (I'm an atheist, and I received the disc for Christmas several years ago from my very Catholic mother...), and none of the three girls have so much talent that your eyes simply bug out, but all three of them are "good." Regardless, it's the lyrics that make me cry every time. "Who are you to tell me that I'm less than what I should be? Who are you? Who are you? I dont need to listen to the list of things I should do; I wont try -no, I wont try."
"The Loss" by Hollywood Undead. I was bummed out this didnt make it on their debut record; it's a really fabulous track... A great song as far as audio and talent goes, especially since it was self-produced, but it's one of the saddest songs I know; the narrator's friend commits suicide, and as consequence the narrator questions his own death as well. "And when the bullet went through, it took more than just two. It was you, it was me, and suddenly... How can someone say they're helpless, and then they act so selfish? ...And what about our friendship? And what you did was senseless. You thought you found an exit?! Like I said, let's end this."
Thank You - Terrible Two (difficult to categorise, clattery, post-rock type noise for a Tuesday morning)
"What Do I Have to Do?" by Stabbing Westward Quite similar to Nine Inch Nails --with the change that Trent Reznor is a one-man band and Stabbing Westward has, I believe, five members... I love this song because the lyrics are really direct and clear --as direct and as clear as I wish I was sometimes. Not only do I tend to be a little bit verbose (couldnt you tell? ) in my writing but in my speech as well, so my points often get lost in conversation... "What do I have to do to make you want me? What do I have to do to make you understand? What do I have to do to make you love me? And if I cant make you love me, just tell me, what do I have to do to forget about you?" I love depressing music...
