November's Doom, When Desperation Fills the Void- one of my favourites from the album. I find its chorus as striking as the chorus of Mother Superior. The title of the song sums it up pretty much perfectly.
In Flames, Swim. Much less gloomy than my last choice. Neal Morse, The Creation. One of the best songs by one of my favourite musicians.
Behemoth, Hell Dwells in Ice. I wanted to get a postgame show on my computer, but to be honest this probably fits what I'm thinking better right now.
Your Hand In Mine ~ Explosions In The Sky (and ironically, I'm hearing explosions in the sky--somebody's been shooting at the coyotes tonight way off in the distance)
Beds are burning - midnight oil. I heard the new cover version today, the global warning awareness one with the heavily edited lyrics and performed by the likes Bob Geldoff, Duran Duran, Lily Allen, Desmond Tutu and god knows how many others. As they say "to many cooks..."
Epica, Kingdom of Heaven. Fantastic song, but it's going to give Dream Theater's 'The Count of Tuscany' a run for comedy classic of the year. Aside from the 'No, I don't want to go back NOOOOOOOooooo!!' bridge, the chorus features lines like 'Quantam physics leads us to answers to the great taboo!' sung by a full choir. Laughter is indeed the best medicine.
