I'm surprised you've heard of him! You're maybe the third person I know of who has. I'm impressed. I am always floored by his "Arpeggios from Hell." xx "Unfamiliar" by The Birthday Massacre. xx Believe it or not, my 5000 iTunes collection and Pandora are starting to feel a little repetitive. I like everything, mostly. Hope you guys have suggestions!
I have 9200, and it still feels repetitive sometimes. For bands that are in the Nightwish/Within Temptation style: I recommend Epica and After Forever. They're both inconsistent, but at their best are awesome. Epica's new cd 'Design Your Universe' is my favourite album this year. Visions of Atlantis and Gwyllion are both pretty good, though Visions can't seem to keep a lead vocalist. Therion is worth checking out, because they pretty much started the sub-genre. Their stuff varies wildly from straight up death metal, to almost entirely orchestral pieces, to a balance between the two. Deggial, Lemuria + Sirius B, and Gothic Kabbalah are all excellent, and Secret of the Runes is a pretty good introduction to them. Other Random Recommendations: I think you'll really like Devin Townsend's new album 'Addicted.' Kamelot, Stratovarius and Symphony X as well, who between them account for three of the best vocalists in metal. Kamelot's best are 'Epica' and 'The Black Halo,' Stratovarius' best, imo, is 'Destiny,' and the best by Symphony X is 'Paradise Lost.' Amorphis from 'Eclipse' to 'Skyforger' Skyfire (though their vocalist sounds like In Flames) Guilt Machine, which is the new side project from the guy who makes Ayreon If you've ever wanted to listen to death metal, the new Behemoth album 'Evangelion' is about as accessible as it gets. November's Doom- very moody, slower metal. Unlike most metal bands, they have excellent lyrics. and Opeth, even though you've probably heard them already, no list of recommendations is complete without Opeth. As for what I'm listening to, I'm listening to the Leafs. They are outplaying their opponent so far but haven't managed to score
Oh yeah! Arpeggios from Hell is just amazing. Black Star is my favourite though. I'm a fan of Yungwie; even seen him live.
I agree. I'm a bad metal fan, I'm not big on either Judas Priest or Metallica. Coheed and Cambria, Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)
Wow, thanks, Agreen! I've heard of maybe half of these bands and have some of those songs, but definitely not all of them. And supermajoruberohmygoshthankyouthankyou for letting me know that Ayreon's creater has a new side project! I was not aware of that. "Hide and Seek (Tiesto version!)" by Imogen Heap. I'm torn... I love the raw original version but Tiesto... Well, there's a reason he's #1 every year on the DJ list, isnt there?
New Fang - Them Crooked Vultures Downfall - Trust Company Defy You - The Offspring ...yes, I was listening to the radio, but I still like these songs anyways.
