@obsidian_cicatrix: I've never heard of rosehip relish, but it sounds really yummy. Love, LOVE the grilled goat's cheese too, btw I can't wait to move and forage, I even got a pocketbook of edible plants, can't wait to try it! Can wild roses be planted like that? This one is rosa rugosa, I'm hoping nurseries will have it because it's a popular hedging plant. Gives best rosehips, really big, and lots of them. @Okon: Home made rosehip jam is unlike anything else. A divine combination of sweetness and tartness and that autumn nectar taste, just amazing. Best pancake filling also. It's a simple recipe but a lot of work, and shop-bought stuff doesn't come even close. So not many people make it anymore.
I believe so, and the Rugosa is certainly the best variety. I think once you get it established, it's just a matter of careful pruning to maximise yield... there's several sites online that show you how. I do agree with you when you say that shop bought rosehip jams don't compare well against home made. Personally, I like to keep a little tartness with the sweet, and find that many contain too much sugar and little acidity. A scone, clotted cream, and rosehip jam. Heaven. (Well, except for weighing down my bathroom scales, and clogging up my arteries. )
Thank you so much for that info! I guess I'm always thinking of hybrid roses, forgetting there are natural varieties. Uh-oh scones, jam and clotted cream  I seldom dare, but I agree, it's heavenly
I had some fun today trying to look like a guy by using makeup (and some of my brother's clothes). I've never tried something like this, so I just played around with brown eyeshadow to try and do some contouring to get more manly features. Oh, and of course mascara to get the brushy eyebrows. The angle of the photo makes it look more like my face is just dirty, and I'll admit it didn't look that great, but I did get to scare my brother quite a bit. I came into the room he was sitting in, and for a moment he just stared at me, perplexed, thinking a stranger had got into the house. I got a good laugh. The second one is after washing it off and applying something more female looking.
I followed a baby mongoose to his/her hidie-hole in the tree at the end of the driveway. People here call them ardilla, which means squirrel in Spanish. Yeah, not a squirrel. Teeth like a cat, not like a rat.
The beard is coming in nicely. The lady of the house is still not enthused with the bald head, however.
My History teacher shaved his head and would annoy his wife by walking around with a Caillou figurine. (They have a 3-year-old and 1-year-old, so having a Caillou figurine is normal.)
What she really wants me to do is get this look back. She says that was where I was at my "sexiest" lol.
I can't take credit for this... wish I could. This amazing portrait of 'an anonymous child' was commissioned as part of the Festival at Queens in Belfast. In was crafted in pegs and soil by Cuban-American artist Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada, in partnership with the city and its people. It was placed in the Titanic Quarter, near to the City Airport, and is visible to those flying into Belfast. It will last as long as our weather lets it.
Thanks @obsidian_cicatrix It's my new MAC lipstick in 'Media' and a pencil. I'm lucky to have nicely demarcated lips anyway, but the lipstick is phenomenal, it stayed on all evening, doesn't kiss off, doesn't get eaten, it just stayed perfectly. Just as well, since we had loads of kids come over and my dog was doing his best Cerberus impression, there was no time to even check, let alone reapply
@jazzabel. I wasn't sure whether you used one or two colours. I can see that the central section of your lower lip is heavier than the outer corners. I really like that look. Very striking, reminds me of geisha make-up. It's funny, the one thing I've noticed as I get older is that the outline of my upper lips especially is becoming less defined. I have no choice but to use liner now... used to be I could get away with it as long as the lipstick was of good quality.
@obsidian_cicatrix: I always do that with stronger colours. Just make it all nice and full, and then swipe from outside in, from the corners. Then dab more lipstick on the middle ( i made it a bit uneven, didn't notice until I saw the pictures ). Proper geisha (all white except for the heart shaped colour in the middle) looks a bit weird on me but this works, like bitten lips, sort of. With outlines, what works best (imo) is lip filler, Juvederm 2 along the edges, plus some filtrum filling if needed. Revives even really old lips, stops lipstick bleed etcetera. But the doctor doing the procedure has to be good (as with anything, I suppose).
lol... It's a bit hypocritical of me, I know, given that my hair is dyed, I'm tattooed from head to toe, and have more holes than a teabag, but I would never have a procedure done for the sake of turning back the clock. This is one thing I'm really resolute about. I intend to grow old disgracefully.
