Yesterday was my grandson's birthday. As he has more clothes and toys than he knows what to do with, my friend, Kris, volunteered to make him a cake. No mean feat... before this, the most adventurous things he'd baked were Apple themed cupcakes. To say I was impressed is an understatement. I was expecting a Victoria sponge with a load of candles on it. But then again, he's the sort that never does anything by half measures. As for my grandson. It's a bit hard to blow out candles when one's jaw is hitting the floor.
Spent the day at Villa Cofresí with my brother and his hubby, Andy. I'm in the green tank, my brother in the black tank.
@Wreybies Ahh... blue sky. I can almost remember what that looks like. *sighs* It's bad enough my mate's in Aus, reporting from the beach and sending me pics. Rub it in why don't you? Belfast is cloudy with gale force winds and intermittent downpours. Still, I shouldn't complain. The Trians are lucky to see daylight right now.
When one lives as close to the Tropic of Cancer as I, the only difference in season is dry or wet. There are days when I can easily imagine Sir David Attenborough hid behind the giant ceiba at the bottom of my property, speaking to the camera in the very definition of RP and saying, "Here we have the equatorial Puerto Rican sipping at his morning coffee. Notice the puffiness beneath his eyes, evidence of a night spent in fiesta and cavorting..."
Wow! That is some tree. And then some. There's something about his delivery always makes me feel sleepy. I dread to think what he'd have to say about us lot. Wouldn't be too complimentary, I'm sure.
You just had to, didn't you? Wow...just, wow. To be fair though... the North Antrim coast does get some gorgeous sunsets when the weather's decent. Last time I went for a swim, I nearly ended up with hypothermia though. I shook for 3 hrs straight. Bet your waters more pleasant, but then again, there are probably more critters that can kill you too. Worst I have to worry about is a crab grabbing my toe.
@Wreybies That's so amazing! And this morning I biked to work in darkness while it was sleeting, like the skies had the friggin cold and just kept sneezing down at me. Ah, global warming in the north, gotta love it. Anyways. T and I went to visit my Mom and her bf (manfriend?) last weekend. Their 1-year-old puppy came to check on T and I every few minutes. She just stood behind the treshold, staring, as she's been taught not to come to that room. The cutest little thing
But of course we see daylight! Slander! We just have to glimpse out of the window between 12:03:45 and 12:03:46. On a more positive note, we had the darkest day already, so from now on the days start getting lighter (very gradually) until after 6 months or so, we'll be lucky to see anything but daylight... which is always a bit weird even for us, 'cause going to sleep when the sun is shining through your bedroom window just makes it feel like it's still noon. More like every 15 seconds. I have a hunch the poor thing has some form of explosive amnesia as she appeared to forget who we were whenever we were out of sight for longer than 16 seconds (que compulsory sniff-and-lick -assault). But she sure has an engaging personality.
We got ice rain over the weekend and were without power for 2 days. Many trees fell over from the weight-- forgot to take pictures of those. On the bright side, we got a crystal white Christmas...
Wow. Sparkly! Strangely enough, this very thing happened to us the second year that we lived in Florida. Central Florida, just south of Cape Canaveral, on the water. That year ('86, I think it was ) an unprecedented cold front made its way all the way to us unabated. Everyone woke up to crystalline beautiful landscapes because no one turned off their automatic sprinkler systems.
@rhduke Those pictures are stunning. Where I'm from, it never stays cold long enough for that to happen. We get showers of sleat, maybe the odd icicle, but nothing like that.
Yeah I've never seen anything like this before, it's a first for my city in a long time. Walking down the sidewalk is like trying to get through a war zone, giant trees have cracked and fallen over while the others are hanging over threatening to impale you will icicles. Very beautiful though. Even more so at night when the trees shimmer under a lamppost.
@rhduke Wow! Snow lightens up the winter darkness, and I wished we had some too... Usually we have, but the last two winters were super snowy and cold so I guess nature's compensating... or it's the global warming, who knows. @Orihalcon That's one big beer you've got there! I remember Newcastle was really tasty, back when I still drank more often (nowadays it's just something like twice a year)... Was a bit of a beer snob at one point too, Chimay Blue and Hooegarden being some of my favorites.
This watercolor is from my art class in the fall. Hoping to do a bit better in the next one that starts in another week.
That's really good, @Cogito! Trust me, watercolors are hard to work with! (And I use water color pencils!)
First full day back from the honeymoon and I miss it already. Of course, it's kind of hard to beat this as the view out your front door...
@Cogito: why are you so cute? Art class. are you serious. hobbies are good. i should know. Passion is fine, but I'm bored out of my mind without the "write" outlet. I like your "House With Tree". You should start naming your paintings.
