Many with psychiatric issues decide to seek help from a qualified therapist in order to learn how to cope with emotionally difficult times that life can sometimes throw at them. So what should you look for in a therapist? The thing is, telling someone which therapist to see is sort of like telling someone who to marry. Take me, for example. I like a shrink that has a lot to say. However, many others would rather see a counselor who is more of a listener. Hence, anyone who seeks a psychotherapist should stick with a therapist who is a good fit for them.
Unfortunately, even that may be dangerous advice. Hopping from therapist to therapist often ends up with a "comfortable" choice rather than one who will not let the client coast.
I agree. I think the proof of a good therapist is not whether you like them or enjoy the session, but whether they actually help. And sometimes that means they make you do stuff you don't like.
