TMW.... thunderstorm and blinding rain makes you 1 minute late for a meeting BUT... you realize you went to the wrong location SO.... you drive to the right location and its ok because you are only 10mins late BUT.... they are testing security measures so your key card doesnt work to get you in the building so you're standing outside in the storm trying to get someones attention to let you in. and thats how i ended up being 15 mins late to a meeting this morning and wet GOOD MORNING, EVERYBODY
Morning, J.T. We're snowed and drifted in, and unless some kind soul comes along with a snowplow, I doubt I'll manage to travel the mile between here and the museum until sometime Thursday, if then. This is the most snow we've seen in a single storm, perhaps in the half century we've lived in Wyoming, but certainly in the 32 years we've lived in this house. People in wet areas might not be impressed (looking at you, Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountain dwellers) but in this dry country, three feet is a lot, and it is still coming down. Great for snowpack, harder than hell on the wildlife. TMW you know your yearly meat bill is going to be higher than usual...
Meanie head. I hope a mosquito bites you and makes you drop your tequila down the front of your pants. Yesterday was officially the snowiest day in recorded history for this area: 27 inches in 24 hours. The previous record was 25 inches in 24 hours on Xmas in 1982. That was a good storm. It was our first Xmas alone together. We unplugged the phone and pretended the rest of the world was nonexistent.
My commiserations. Tomorrow it's forecasted to be around 18 C (65 F) and I am going to wash down the patio furniture. First sit-out of the new year!
Et tu, Louanne? My husband just came in to say he was giving up on moving snow for the day because it's drifted along patio and driveway higher than his head. The snow to be moved is too deep for the snowblower and it takes too much effort to keep throwing it that high shovelful by shovelful. Tomorrow he says he'll get in the back of the truck and throw the snow in the bed over the drift into the pasture. When the truck bed is empty, he'll throw the stuff on the driveway into the truckbed and repeat the process as necessary until the snowblower can run properly to remove the rest.
That sounds like a nightmare. But out your way it should get up to 70 F by the weekend. Here's hoping for a speedy melt.
Yep. I remember that from New Hampshire. Shoveling is bad enough but then you run out of places to put it. Driveway was 300 feet so we needed a plow for that. And then a bulldozer twice a year to push the piles back for the snowplow to get in.
I went searching for "snow" in my google photos because we did get a little that stuck to the rooftops last winter. Not enough for the bot to recognize it though. Oh well.
Sympathy, ridgerunner. I'd rather deal with blizzards than tornadoes. Sunshine today, still below freezing. Much snow removed from cement surfaces. Grandson out doing his share while Husband takes a well deserved rest. I will take a turn with the shovel, then finish cleaning house and moving furniture. It is supposed to be in the 50s this time next week. I dearly hope so since I am supposed to leave Tuesday night for a ten day vacation. I have had damn all enough of this winter. Haven't heard the final totals, but suspect this storm broke storm records as well as 24 hour accumulation records.
Alas, with over three feet of new snow, melting a smallish area would just result in forming a snow-walled swimming pool. Otherwise, I like the idea. Temps are in the forties today and things are melting like crazy. I can hardly wait to see what floods if ice dams form on the river. Why I live on the side of a ridge with well-established drainages...
Christmas is not that far off. He’s not a felon is he? https://trashpandatactical.com/shop/ols/categories/airfryers
We had an epic ice dam explode on the Saco River a few years when I lived in NH. It sounded like an artillery barrage. Pictures and shit fell off the walls. Then it rolled through like an ice cream scoop along both banks, 6 feet high ripping out trees, rocks, and everything else. It took maybe 90 seconds to pass but I've never seen anything like it before or since.
That must have been awesome, in the true meaning of the word before it got all touristy at the end of the 20th century. Not last time I checked.
TMW you had to delete 6 books off of your order list because the publishers pulled them from publication (they are all political "hot topics" books that were supposed to be released in May and June)
TMW when you're standing around with your friends minding your business and some random TikTok girls walk up and ask if you want to 'watch me whip/nae nae' in a strangely provocative way Mind you, we didn't know these people at all and just collectively decided they only asked us [the only black and hispanic kids in the immediate vicinity, in a very white area] to make sure they were 'doing it right' Very bizarre to this day but the four or so of us got a good laugh out of it afterward
TMW you walk into an electronics store for no real reason and realize you don't want anything that's in there -- and can't understand why anyone else would want it, either.
Are people still doing that? That said, the other day at school (I'm a sub teacher) I had some kids ask me, "Miss Lewis, do you dab?" (So . . . did you watch them do it?)
That moment when you find out an old real-life antagonist of yours is dead and your first reaction is relief.
That moment when your latest beta reader PM's you to verify your email address, saying she's not even out of the prologue yet and she already has Thoughts. Nooooooooo!!!!!!
One of my bullies in elementary school, who hadn't changed his ways (just his targets) by high school was involved in a stupid teenage accident when he was around 16 or so. Went into a coma. Then twenty odd years later FB suggested him to me as a friend. He was out of his coma but restricted to an electric wheelchair and... ...and I DGAF. Then later he popped up on my hometown memorial site and I can't help but feeling a complete absence of grief. Maybe he would have aged out of it, but he spent ten or more years as a complete asshole. The world is not worse off for his absence.
