That moment when you finally have an opening for your novel that you still like when you re-read it the next morning. Apart from the second sentence. That one very obviously needs some work.
That moment when you wake up at 3:00 am because you've been working overnights and your body isn't calibrated for a regular schedule.
But that is the opposite of fun. It's like "funsize" chocolate which is really just so small that it makes you sad.
Got about a cord left to go to bring it up to about 4.5-5 cords total. Bring it on! Woodstove burns from October until early May... all for about $800-$900. Nothing like 75 degrees inside when it's -20 outside.
Totally agree! I try to go in with 6 cord and it costs $700 for the wood itself here (not counting chainsaw gas/oil). Probably about $800 all in. I go in houses that don't have woodstoves and feel cold. It's a totally different kind of heat and I wouldn't be without it. I love it. Mine usually runs from October to late April and I keep the house around 70 (though the room with the stove is significantly warmer). What kind of stove to you have?
Mine was done in about april .... it rains a lot here so its in a shed, but i wanted the summer heat to help it season
Haha, I don't cut it. Trees on the property are too big to fall without wiping out the house or somebody else's property. I suppose I could have it brought it on a flatbed and split it myself, but that's too much work. Easier to pay the guy down the street to deliver it. It's an old (80s?) iron behemoth. Actually about twice as large as I need according to my chimney dude. Chimney is dual flu (flue?) with another stove in the basement that I don't use unless it gets super cold.
I get a tri-axle load delivered every summer (sometimes spring depending on weather) and I have a log splitter, so it's a lot of work, but not too awful. I used to have one like that. Now I have a Harman that I love so much. It will heat you right out of the house and gets 8 hour burns so you can still sleep even when it's super cold (without having to get up and add wood in the middle of the night).
Man you live in the woods and don't cut it yourself .. man up, get a chainsaw, learn about turning cuts
I got one for the deadfall and the occasional fallen soldier, but I ain't importing 700 cubic feet just to feel manly. I wrestle a bear when I gets that urge.
I wouldn't want to cut a whole winter's worth myself - when I lived in a house that heated with wood, I bought it (and even paid them to stack it for me after the first couple years). But we have a family cottage that we only use for a couple weeks in the winter, and it's nice to go up in the fall and work as a family and put in a cord or so, which is more than enough. Well, thinking about it now it's nice, but really I hate the noise, when it's happening. And I hate wearing ear protection because I get paranoid that someone's going to sneak up behind me (with a chainsaw, naturally, given the setting) so... "nice" may not be quite the right word. But it's a tradition.
