... when it suddenly clicks and you totally relate to your dad’s comments about modern music when you were growing up. It really is ‘just noise’!

Bear with me for a moment...

I read an article written by someone explaining ADHD and how stimulants like Ritalin (basically a form of speed) could actually make it easier for affected people to focus. The author explained it as like trying to drive when you were worried about falling asleep. You'd turn on the radio, open the windows, and ask anyone in the car to keep talking to you so that you'd be able to focus on the task at hand. Putting up so much "noise" that you can see the important bits clearly, basically.

Now, I'm having early-onset "senior moments" as I approach fifty, but I've never had a diagnosis or even a screen for any of the things that are now called ADHD, but I remember the music of my teen years well, and quite a bit of it fits the above description of trying to overwhelm everything else so the music can get through. Take a listen to this:

Don't know if I ever really noticed the shrieking feedback in the background when I was of the age to appreciate this properly, but from most angles, yeah, it's just noise.

I don't really mean 'noise' in that sense, nor, do I think, did my dad back in the day. Also, if I didn't make it clear I don't mean I think the music I used to listen to is 'just noise', but that 'modern music' is, relatively speaking. It's more an old fart's outlook on modern music. It's void of melody. You can't hear the words, etc etc etc.

That moment when your workplace puts up a load of glitter-encrusted decorations everywhere... and you are the cleaner.

TMW you realize you haven’t written anything the past few weeks. I know it’s due to stress and anxiety, but still.

That moment when you're the youngest degreed staff member and no one takes you seriously....

I told one manager there was a problem. She tells me its not HER problem and tells me to tell another manger. Told that manager.
    Nothing happens.

Told the first manger again few days later when issue kept happening (and gave proof that the issue was coming from her department). She lightly addresses it.
Told second manager again. Nothing happens.

ANOTHER coworker (more senior) complains about the exact same thing 2 days ago and suddenly the next day an all staff email goes out about this "issue" that i brought up months ago signed by all the managers (including the managers that waved me off).....

Smart girl. You've got proof. Timestamped, nonetheless.

I think this kind of workplace drama is part and parcel of the hussle in specific job positions and I don't miss it or them the least bit.

not a pro, yet very curious
I am sure the managers knew you were right and onto something, but since you are a junior they could ignore you. Instead when the other senior member complained they couldn't ignore it, so the first manager addressed it. Now you know that when time comes and you will need something important or that matters to you done, possibly about a project a promotion or a recommendation, you will need a push by a senior member. It is not a bad thing you've learned now it works this way :supercheeky:

That heartbreaking moment where you revisit the hiding spot where you secretly stashed the valuable, last two cabbage dolmades to find in disbelief they're missing. Did I mention you haven't eaten anything all day? Yes, you were saving these for later. Oh, it's also too late to order and all you have are vegetables, weeds, butter, cheese and toasts. Damn... :bigfrown:

Where's all your grains, pastas and dry goods? That would be dinner. You should have boxes of each at all times.

I still have half a bag of potato chips if that counts, but man, you're missing the point. You don't feel me. No one understands... No one... :(

Saved me a slice of cheese cake once. I had 2 slices and asked my husband if he wanted the other. He says no. I ask if hes sure, he says he is. I ask again if he was sure he didnt want it. He says hes sure.

So i save the last piece of cheese cake.
All day i'd been thinking about this cheesecake slice. I couldnt wait to come home and eat me that slice with a cup of tea.

    .....get home and its gone.
    Hubby ate it. :nosleep:

    :cry::cry::cry:

It's sooo disappointing. My sister asked me if I wanted them and I told her, "Yes, please, oh yes!" and I hid them to eat them later. She knew that! If she'd regretted it, all she had to do was ask, where I'd reply, "No, now they're mine." I mean, hiding them is a statement on its own, isn't it? What kind of treachery is this?

Well, he might not have wanted it then, but if a work day then elasped, I'd say the statute expired.

... when you buy a new computer monitor and it's got periodic amnesia, as in it forgets what it is so the computer can't connect to it. There's only space for one amnesiac in this household, mate, so back to the store you go!
