... the film you’re watching on DVD freezes at a particular point, just about half way through, and refuses to go beyond that point. I’ve cleaned it and checked it - it’s flawless and has always played okay on previous viewings - but will it play beyond this point? No sir! It got to the stage where I’d had it in and out of the player and fast forwarded to the problem point so many times, I‘d lost all interest in continuing with the film anyway.

Don’t say that. I’ve only had it six months.

Anyway, if it was the player, it wouldn’t be the same spot in the film where it freezes, surely??

I don't know. Have you tried the disc in another player? That's the only way to tell.

No, it would’ve meant faffing around the back of the tv trying to find the power lead for the other player, which isn’t easy with a frozen shoulder. And besides I’d had enough by that point. I’ll see how the next dvd I watch behaves.

Just a thought but it’s actually a Blu-ray player and I noticed my last Blu-ray player wasn’t always brilliant at playing DVDs.

So in America when the sun goes down and I sit on the old broken-down river pier watching the long, long skies over New Jersey and sense all that raw land that rolls in one unbelievable huge bulge over to the West Coast, and all that road going, all the people dreaming in the immensity of it, and in Iowa I know by now the children must be crying in the land where they let the children cry, and tonight the stars'll be out, and don't you know that God is Pooh Bear? the evening star must be drooping and shedding her sparkler dims on the prairie, which is just before the coming of complete night that blesses the earth, darkens all rivers, cups the peaks and folds the final shore in, and nobody, nobody knows what's going to happen to anybody besides the forlorn rags of growing old, I think of Lewdog, I even think of Old Lewdog the father we never found, I think of Lewdog.

That’s why they always say keep a notepad and pencil by your bed. Most dreams dissipate in seconds.
