I agree that it seems out of place. I can't stop people from posting them of course, but for me it only distracts from the writing. Listening to music might help inspire you, but it doesn't improve anyone's writing whatsoever. It really doesn't. In fact I find that when I put music on my writing gets terribly melodramatic and movie-like, which is a step backwards in my mind. It might also be the fact that I have a different taste in music than most here, I have yet to listen to a Japanse song that didn't make my ears bleed. Sorry xD.
i usually listen to music all the time, so i'm used to it when i write by now. though you don't have to listen if you don't want to -that's a benefit of the play/pause button. also, i don't think ill be putting much music in my posts. i can never find the right mood. I often listen to music while I write... but not while I read. I have nothing against Japanese music or anime OSTs, but I am yet to click on any of what's been posted. For me, I know it would only be distracting and, (as Macaberz pointed out,) does nothing to help the writing. Bad writing with good music is still bad writing. Your words should set the mood, not a link to something someone else made, even if it is a fitting theme. But, again, to each their own. Que sera, sera. If you want to post them, I can't stop you. But let's at least try to get our writing up to (or above) the standards of these OSTs, otherwise it's just a good song with some writing tacked on the side, when it should be the other way around.

In fact I'd say all of have done at least really good mood setting pieces on this forum. Obviously if you write a book you don't (well you can't but if you could) put in music. I like OSTs in RPG as a way of experimenting something different. Now am I going to lie and say "Everything I write is epic enough for an ost!" No of course not. For one because its not. Two because I (And nobody else on here) uses OSTs in every single post. Just something some of us do from time to time. Also if the writing is bad then at least there is golden music sometimes. Kinda like when someone is on the toilet. It smells so you light a match. The shit is still there but now at least it smells better. I couldn't resist a toilet joke.

No matter how much you like certain music, I think your writing should be able to stand on its own. Posting an OST alongside makes me believe that you don't trust your own writing skills enough to leave the uneccessary music out. I have nothing against people listening or sharing OST's but in a game thread, it does strike me as a distraction. I would even go so far as to claim that it might scare away new players because it confirms a certain image/reputation that we have. If we want to stand any chance of bringing in new players we need to show that this isn't only about fun, but also about quality of writing, I think the OST's help point in the opposite direction. Oh, I know, it's not that big of an issue

REGARDING OST I post the one I think fits the mood I want to show. Is optional to listen to it or not. But I also rocognize that it may interrupt reading, hence whey I always put it in spoiler tags. I think this is a solution that won't bring any bother to anyone
