The dumbest question you'll see here

I know this is a really dumb question and I hesitate to ask, but it is driving me nuts that I can't figure it out and I can't find the explanation anywhere.

What's up with the orange and yellow feathers, why are some orange/red and other's yellow?

Told you it was a dumb question and I know the answer has probably been glaring me in the face.

 

The orange feathers mean that there are unread posts in that particular subforum. Yellow feathers mean there are no unread posts.
