Well, emphasis on the word some. I would assume that the amount they would expect you to have would be proportionate to the amount of time you intend to stay. You obviously wouldn't need as much if you're staying a week as you would if you were staying a month, nor if you were going somewhere where you could get more for your money. I would assume that the customs people would take all that into account. If they really are stopping people from visiting because they don't have 10k in the bank, then this would seem to be an abuse of the maximum permitted currency rule. ETA - also, if they believe you are intending to stay indefinitely, it won't matter how much money you have in the bank. Staying illegally is illegal no matter how wealthy you are.
Part of me is tempted to apply for an Irish passport so I can remain a citizen of the EU after Brexit. I wouldn't actually move to Ireland though, so I don't really know how it would work practically.
How’s this for first world: I want to write, but I’m not going to because there’s no comfortable place to set up shop at my sister-in-law’s place. Basically, fuck everything. My life is over. [Melodrama—it’s not that serious.]
I want to record a guitar part for a new song, warm up my voice and record some vocals, but it's hot and I'm tired and I'm lazy. Meanwhile real musicians are out there getting people to listen to their music.
I'd be rich and famous by now, too, if I weren't so goddamn lazy. I'm in the same boat you are. I have a couple of songs I want to record, but my mikes and recording gear are all packed away for my move to my new house in Washington State. (I'm moving at around July 10.) Besides, for what I have in mind, I need a bass guitar and a flute. I can ape the flute part with my synthesizer, but I'm dying to buy a bass. Maybe I'll give myself one for my birthday.
@minstrel Not too bothered about the rich and famous. I’m too sensitive for the music industry. Just want people to hear it and enjoy it really. ETA - and even if they don’t enjoy it, I’d at least like it to make someone feel something.
Funny, that is how I feel about writing. Though if I made some dough with it, I wouldn't complain too much.
So Germany lost against Korea in the football world cup and is now officially out of the race. I couldn't care less, of course... what really gets to me is how now social media and the news are full of those nationalist, self-proclaimed patriots who blame the defeat on the team not being "German" enough - meaning they don't have German names, their parents were immigrants, they have the wrong religion or they just look too different. Blatant, unashamed racism. It's disgusting. And it's not just anyone who does it but politicians, people that got voted into parliament. And the public digs it..
So apparently Facebook is screwing with me — I’m unable to make new posts on my wall or on my Facebook groups, so I won’t be able to post new stuff as much until they <glares at Facebook> get their act together.
They...uh... ....They remember what happened the last time politicians talked like that...right? I mean, it was only 73 years ago? And um... Does literally no one in politics remember what happened 73 years ago!? I mean, we’ve still got people living today who fought in that friggin’ war!
Ughh. I'm really upset about what's going on in the political landscape of my country atm. This probably isn't the appropriate thread to rant about that though so I'll resist the temptation. Just leaving this "gem" I found on social media yesterday, posted by a right-wing politician: Picture of two members of the German football team, titled These are Mesut Özil and Ilkay Gündogan. They were born in Germany. They are Germans. Below a picture of two guinea-pigs titled These are Fluffy and Muffy. They were born in a horse stable. They are horses. And that's mild compared to the other shit particularly one political party blurts out daily. That's how it all started. Bloddy hell.
This is just a prime example of why I hate Sports in general. The atmosphere, the jocks, the fucking fans. I just find it all to my disdain. I mean fucking seriously,
Yup... and the further irony is that Turks (which those guys clearly are not) are, as a group, the nicest, friendliest people I've ever met. Not a putdown on non-Turks, but my experiences in Turkey were amazing and left a great impression on me. Fuck guinea pigs though, those things are just evil
