Making apple pie with my grandma reminds me of how delicious apples with sugar, cinnamon and ginger are, pie crust or no.

Everyone goes mad about turkeys but I find them quite dry although we do sometimes have Turkey at Easter too.

I've actually never eaten turkey myself, which is why I'd like a reason to eat one (no, it's definitely not possible to eat turkey off-holiday, :D).

Hubs likes apple sauce with pork but I just can't get around having fruit with main meal. I don't do cranberry sauce either!

I had a great Thanksgiving meal at a hotel restaurant. The turkey was so moist, as was the stuffing. And the deserts were second to none.

Yesterday I had a bowl of seafood chowder at a local diner.

It had giant chunks of fish in it. But the chowder was a little too salty for me.

There's this incredible place down in the Third Ward in MKE that I love. New spot for me and my friends. :)

When I go out to eat, I tend to order the same food. But yesterday I tried something new, which was a Clam Cake Burger at a local restaurant.

I've had this before, just not at this particular restaurant.

I'm glad I tried it, because it was good.

Finally got together with the best friend and made sugar chai tea cookies with eggnog cinnamon frosting - delicious, even though eggnog really isn't my thing.

Lately, I've been eating some junk food at night, although not excessively.

One thing I like to do is put a chewy chocolate chip cookie in a small dish and microwave it for ten seconds. Then, I put vanilla ice cream (actually, it's vanilla frozen yogurt) on top of it.

    Ooh, it's so good!

^ Warm cookies are the only way to eat them, honestly.

Made Pumpernickel loaves this weekend, with lots of orange zest added. It doesn't shout, "CITRUS!" it just kind of whispers it sensuously.

Microwaved brownies are also awesome, I think.

Sorry, I didn't take pictures this time. I do have some shots of rye loaves in my profile gallery, though.

I had an awesome cheeseburger at a local general store yesterday.

It had been a while since I had eaten there.

The burgers they now sell are a little more expensive than they used to be there. However, the burgers they serve are now larger in size. And they taste just as good, I think.

Pumpernickel with orange zest sounds interesting.

I'm away from home for the month in Florida and have got to try some new food. Conch, for one, both fritters and chowder. I didn't like it, too rubberbandish. Also paella, which was scrumptious. And veal, which I think I somehow missed and don't recall having before. I wasn't crazy about it but it may have been overcooked. I was surprised it was white, not red. I had a Florida lobster tail too, but it looked and tasted like the rock lobster I've had elsewhere. That's all I can think of right now. :)

At one of the local restaurants I often eat at, the price for a small bottle of Kiwi Strawberry juice has recently risen from $1.69 to $2.29.

That's a lot for a relatively small bottle of juice.

Made fried eggplant last night - yum. I updated it from my dad's technique, though. After it's egg bath and crumb coat I spray it with butter spray and lay it on a sheet of foil and bake it in the oven. That way it gets crispy without the crumbs falling off in a pan.

Made chocolate muffins/cupcakes with a new recipe which includes boiling hot water and ends up as a pouring batter. Was yummy!

I really dig the Mucho Mango iced tea that Arizona puts out. It only costs 99 cents for a ridiculously huge can of it.

The restaurants around here keep going downhill. I went to Outback Steakhouse the other night for the first time in ages, and found they'd taken my favorite appetizer (grilled shrimp on the barbie) off the menu. They didn't have my usual red wine anymore. My roomie said his usual steak was horribly over-seasoned and inedible, and my baby back ribs kinda sucked. The only decent thing was the dark bread.

Years ago, we had a great Chinese restaurant, but it closed. Now, the only Chinese places around are lousy. There are no good Italian places nearby (there's a new Olive Garden in the neighborhood, but hey, it's Olive Garden), and no decent seafood restaurants (Red Lobster doesn't count). We don't even have a decent deli nearby - it's hard to get a good pastrami sandwich!

I can hardly wait to move out of this neighborhood. I want to find a smaller town where people care about feeding their neighbors good food.
