I BEAT Artorias for the first time!! I love my Zweihander/Pancake maker! I ended up beating him melee only- with no weapon buffs like fire. I tried a few times with that, but the effect timer made me greedy. So, I decided to fight Artorias like I had ever other boss. Just beat them into the ground while 2-handing my large-ass sword and dodging. FUCK YEAHH!!!! Uh-oh. It's time to watch Steam explode ... because, because, because ... The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been Remastered, and it's finally here! Rejoice! Or not, whichever. At a whopping 125 Gb worth of download, this beast is beyond the reach of some of us. (I just watched Steam download a 3.6-Gb "update" for Age of Empires 4, which took about 36 minutes. I don't want to know how long 125 Gb would take ... 1,250 minutes? Which, at an average rate of about 100 Mb/minute, would make ... nearly 21 hours. Holy Mother ... Earth). Even better, it retails for about $50 USD (or $90 Australian), which is about how much you'd expect to pay for a new game. Like Baldur's Gate 3 (when it was new). And what do we get for all that? The same old boring Oblivion, except (of course) better graphics, better lip-synching, more diverse voices, better UI ... yeah, well - it's been almost 20 years. Personally, I'd rather take my 50/90 bucks and spend it on a game I haven't played before and don't know the ending to. Like BG3, or something. Still ... BY AZURA, BY AZURA, BY AZURA! STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM! What about you, hmm?
Oblivion remastered seems to have gotten decent reviews right now. I'm slightly excited to try it out once my economy gets a bit better. It was so long ago that I played original Oblivion, I've forgotten a lot of it. I had hoped they would have spent the resources and money creating something new, it basically already is a new game. Something that really excites me is the upcoming DLC for Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord called War Sails. It adds naval features and ships to the game for all factions.
I am not sure how I feel about Oblivion's Remaster. I can't play it on my computer, but I think it was a good thing to make. However, AFTER releasing Elder Scrolls 6. Don't just tease your player base for 7 years or whatever then release a remake. I feel kind of cheated, honestly. But I am glad a remake was made, because I never wanted to play the original, because it just didn't look graphically good.
Spoiler: Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean are in it. (Extra spoiler: Sean Bean dies). Agreed. If it's simply the same game with better graphics and UI, why not create Elder Scrolls 6? Well ... for 2006 (when it came out), the graphics were amazing. I sometimes replay bits of Oblivion, not because of the graphics, but because of the plot and writing. (The Dark Brotherhood quests are especially good, as are the Thieves' Guild ones. I'm not sure why, in Bethesda's games, the law-breaking quests are generally great and the law-abiding quests are kind of ... meh).
Just wondering: is anyone else also waiting for Elder Scrolls VI? :| To me, Elder Scrolls VI is more interesting than the Oblivion remaster ... but we've been waiting a very long time for it. :-\ Morrowind came out in 2002, and Oblivion in 2006, and Skyrim in 2011. Since then, there have been seven (yes, SEVEN) re-releases of Skyrim, as well as Elder Scrolls Online and three mobile-only Elder Scrolls games (Legends, Blades, Castles). When are we going to see ES6? And will it feature hilariously bad dialogue (like ES4), or hilarious bugs (Oblivion AND Skyrim) ... or insta-memes about arrows and knees? Grumble. I used to be a gamer like you. Then I waited for over 12 years for the next Elder Scrolls game, and thought "%&@! it, this thing will never ever be released", and decided to watch Monty Python instead ... where a brigand shot an arrow at the Knights of Ni!
