Kingdoms of Amalur does have a terrible name haha. But it is being made by three juggernauts in their respective fields. It is going to put Skyrim to shame (I hope). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdoms_of_Amalur:_Reckoning But yes, Ni No Kuni is coming out next year (I want to say around March, but don't quote me on it). I hear only good things about Assassins Creed. It is starting to make me think I should finally buy the first one, haha.
BUY IT. BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT. That's probably not enough to motivate you, but there ya go. Seriously though, it's a great series. Okay, so along with that Wiki link (Todd McFarlane, ooh!), I decided to check out a few videos from YouTube. It oddly reminds me of Fable, though. Just the...bright color scheme, I guess? It also makes me a little curious, now. But just a little. Can you imagine the crap it'll get from fans who'll compare it constantly to Skyrim? I see that Rolston is onboard, but still. Some fans (usually the younger ones) can't discern games from what they are/potentially could be, sad as that is. When it's released, the sales probably won't reach Skyrim's, but maybe it'll be one of those games that are underrated. Ah, well, I'll be stalking for any current news on Ni No Kuni for the US, then. I want eeet.
The colors and art direction actually remind me greatly of World of Warcraft (I have never played Fable, but others have made that connection as well). But I personally think it is a good thing. I like it. But fine, I shall pick up the first one when I am done with my current games.
I've spent two hours straight throwing people down the stairs. Can you do that in Kingdoms of Amalur or Ni No Kuni? (actually I'm looking forward to both, especially after I got tired of Skyrim. It's a great game, but so... empty. It's a beautiful world, but nothing to see.) You are forgetting that there are female players too, and many of them would probably want a female assassin.
I want a female assassin, and I'm male! 8D If videogames won't let me play as female assassins, I guess I'll have to go write a book series about a female assassin.
This isn't strictly game related, but it is an Xbox 360 issue. When the dashboard update was released, all of the apps were updated, too. Netflix got an overhaul, one which I would describe as somewhat... slightly... effing terrible. The menu now looks worse than the kindergarten painting hanging on my grandparents' wall. But that's a cosmetic thing. What concerns me is the fact that videos have dropped in picture quality. Noticeably. Where before I had no problem getting HD videos (or at least Netflix's idea of HD), I'm now lucky to hit three bars, which is the new maximum below HD. Any idea if this is a problem on my end? Because this is looking like a Youtube video, if even that. And no, there is no one else in the house streaming videos or anything.
I just got Skyrim, Batman: Arkam City, Forza Motorsport 4 and MW3 for early Christmas gifts. I got to play Skyrim for a little bit and it's amazing. Im currently a Level 2 Kijahht.
Yeah, i meant Khajiit lol. It's a pretty fun game, i love it. I screwed around killing Bandits and then jumping off the mountain. Lol if i had a capture card i would record that.
Civilization 4 did that to me. Same with the original version of Sins of a Solar Empire; even playing a small map with minimum AI opponents could take up to five hours to finish. Thankfully they put in a time-speed function in the later versions, so you could speed up or slow down gameplay at any time. Makes things a hell of a lot easier.
Skyrim has simultaneously consumed my life and given me a motivation to write. I have put nearly 80 hours in the game so far and I am absolutely blown away by the beauty of the world. I love running around and looking at all the different environments, and I think the thing that I love the most is that each dungeon has been hand-made in this game. My girlfriend and I actually spent about 3 hours one night just reading a ton of lore behind the Elder Scrolls series. We learned about each of the races, and a little history behind them; we also took a look at Nirn, and the creation of the planet. My mind raced with the amount of work that has been put into developing this world. Anyway; Level 39 Dunmer. Where my brothers and sisters at?
I know. Any time I want to write a fantasy or sci-fi, I think about the efforts of Bethesda and Bioware in their games and I get overwhelmed. There's no way I could do that, no way. As for my character? My lvl. 22 Breton named Marie Motierre had just completed the main quest and is now relaxing in her home. She's done the Main Quest, Dark Brotherhood, and the Civil War quests and I'm now considering registering her with the Companions.
I envy Bethesda. I wish I could be a member of a team that created something that fantastic. My character has spent a lot of time roaming around the lands. He has an obsession with learning as much of the Dragon language as he can. Because of that though, he has only managed to finish out the main quest line and the Dark Brotherhood. He tried joining the College of Winterhold and the Thieves Guild, but quickly got distracted by the new lands to explore.
While the lore and the world itself is massive... some of the gameplay could definitely use some polishing. That and maybe give a sense of satisfaction after beating the main quest and civil war quest. When I completed both it felt like it was incomplete. Sorta like reading most of a book only to learn the last hundred pages are missing. But I still love the hell out of Skyrim. Last night I finished the civil war quest, this time on the Imperial side and then deleted all my saves and started a brand new character. First character was to mostly get through the main quest and get used to the game and join the Stormcloak. Second character was to do the imperial/destroy dark brotherhood and anything I could think of that I couldn't do in the first character like that. Now. I am just going to do everything I possibly can. Also it amazes me just how much I have yet to do in this game. On my second character I kept finding new things and new quests. Some I had recieved on my first character but never got around to doing them... and some of them ended up being alot of fun. I think I may have sunk close to 100 hours into this game and have yet to get bored with it.
Well I don't mind the combat so much. Although it quickly becomes really easy. Now I am a guy who mostly plays on easier modes. I didn't bother changing the combat difficulty and left it at adept. Once I got some gold together and some patience I grinded blacksmithing and got some dragon scale armor and deadric swords. I owned just about everything. Well of course I did, I have some of the best gear. In my second character I at first was on adept and changed it to expert. This time I played in the Shrouded Armor I looted off Astrid and a skyforge sword and scimitar. I quickly found the game easier, but I did upgrade my armor and weapons a bit. Then again maybe its because im dual weilding? I deal more damage then I take. Though this isn't to say I didn't have my ass kicked thoroughly in some parts. But the majority of it was just way to easy. I think this character I will just go Master and have fun with that. So my complaint on combat isn't that it was dull, it was that it was easy. Or maybe its the samething? But as for gameplay I felt like nothing I did made any difference to anything. I finished the Imperial quest and ended the war. I go talk to some NPC and they rant about armed strangers in town. How its only just starting. I stared at that NPC thinking... I pretty much just ended the war. Sure some small skirmishes are still going to exist, but it isn't going to get worse. Well as far as I know. So even major events such as this seemed to have almost no actual impact in the world. Somehow the lack of this just... bugs me. At least the guards will have new stuff to say after some quests and events in the game. It almost makes up for how they spawned the arrow in the knee meme. Although I do like how if you kill NPCs that you have helped... or if they die randomly... you can get a small inheritance. If its a shop keeper, well its not really worth the 100 gold. Well more like 90 gold, jarl take out taxes. Also I just remembered. Marriage was slightly disappointing. But I never really played a previous TES game so... maybe thats just common practice. I mean the only reason to get married is to have an extra shop and 100 free gold each day. Which I suppose no matter what people would still just do that for that alone. But I'd actually like to get to know the person I married. But then again... I have just realized how pathetic that might sound. I mean its a marriage between pixels. But... well I guess I really loved the romance aspect of DAO. Despite some of its more bigger flaws and how it lacks certain things. I still find myself loving the hell out of the game. Also I am now officially done with this post.
Don't forget the Star Wars: The Old Republic early access starts tomorrow... if you registrered early. I really hope I get in tomorrow. I have work tomorrow morning, but should be home by 2:00 pm. After that I don't have to go back to work until Friday morning. Imagine all tomorrow afternoon, all Wednesday and all Thursday (and the nights between) with Old Republic. That's a nerd overdose right there.
The more I see of this game, the more agitated I get that it is not out yet. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/16/the-many-faces-of-kingdoms-of-amalur-reckonings-main-character/
It looks great, yes. As for me, I've been playing Star Wars: The Old Republic a lot lately. And I mean a -lot- lot. It's awesome in so many ways, and far, far better than Skyrim. Not that Skyrim was that good anyway, but Old Republic is much better. Not sure if it'll be a WoW killer, but I haven't been this involved in a MMORPG since Lord of the Rings Online. Before that, I didn't care much about these games at all. I played Vanguard: Saga of Heroes a few months, but that's about it. If Old Republic keeps up and if they keep their promises about adding new major contant in free updates, I'll be playing it for years. And I don't even have my own spaceship yet. I did get a lightsaber, though. Two of them. As in one for my jedi and a doublebladed one for my sith.
Amazon is having an extremely good deal today if anyone is interested (I myself bought it). But it is a 320gig Uncharted 3 bundle with the Uncharted 1 and 2 pack and a $50 Amazon store credit. All for $299.99 (the price of a 320gig PS3). It worked out splendidly for me, I have been planning on upgrading my PS3 for quite some time. And I have only beaten Uncharted 1 (which I sold a long time ago) so I am happy to be getting all three. And as always, no tax and free shipping.
@JHunter: Over here in Norway, we have an expression: It's like cursing in church. And that's probably what I'm about to do... but I hated Uncharted 1 and 2. I first played the first one, but hated it. Since "everyone" is comparing Nathan Drake to Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, I was expecting something similar. And yes, the first part was fun. Then we got enemies, and the game was reduced to a standard run-n-gun thingy. Then I tried Uncharted 2 (as "everyone" say it's the best game ever made), but it was just more of the same. Uncharted 3? No thanks. @RusticOnion: Yes, I played Revelations (I assume you mean Assassin's Creed?), and think it's ok. It's better than AC2-with-horses-aka-AC: Brotherhood, but it doesn't improve much. AC2 was brilliant, so Brotherhood and Revelations are still brilliant. But they are just more of the same. Oh, well. Here's looking forward to probably-in-ancient-Egypt AC3.
Not a fan of Lara Croft as a character, to be honest. She's...cold and distant to a freaky extent, almost to a sociopathic level. I mean, Ms. "I look after myself" Chloe has a lot more warmth than Lara. If I were trapped in a ravine with either Chloe or Lara, I'd pick Chloe? Why? Because I know she'd at least try to get me out alive. Lara? "You're slowing me down. I'm going to kick you off now." But at any rate, gameplay aside, I like the Uncharted series, and there's not a thing you can do about it.
I felt like I was playing it entirely for the ending. Most of the game was more of the same, which is good in my eyes, but the ending really sang to me. I remember looking forward to the first Assassin's Creed in 2007--it single-handedly convinced this old Nintendo fan to get a 360 rather than a Wii. When it was released, I played it so much that I knew every street and corner of every city. Despite its numerous flaws, it was my favorite game for some time, and Altair was my favorite character. Ubisoft were clearly catering to people like me here. I was personally eager to see what was in Altair's library, and when I realized what exactly I was looking at when I got inside... New favorite moment in video games. That said, the main draw it has for me now is multiplayer. Didn't think I'd like the changes they made from Brotherhood's multiplayer, but for the most part, it's been a pleasant surprise. I'm still trying to beat my own record of 11,290 in Steal the Artifact. That was a fun match.
