Oblivion did have a scaling problem, yeah, but overall it was technologically astounding at the time. Skyrim had awesome graphics, I agree, but they felt too realistic for me. Okay, silly thing to say, I know, but I felt like I wasn't even playing a fantasy game. The outdoors looked like my own, somethings, and I kept asking myself: "Where are the gnarled, haunty trees, the massive mushroom houses, the towns that look very different, with different people?:(" I didn't even finish it.

Another reason I didn't finish the game is that I'm impatient when it comes to voice acting; I hate waiting for the actors to say their bit in one of the eight stock voices used in those games, and end up having to mash the A-button though dialogue. Morrowind had these beautiful speech boxes with highlighted topics I could click on and read through as fast as I liked:love:.

They are all great games on their own, though.

I thought the voice acting was generally good, except: -

"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"
"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"
"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"
"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"
"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"
"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"
"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"
"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"
"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee"

    You get the idea...

Oblivion had that line, Morrowind had cliffracers (the worst birds you will ever meet). I'm going to call it even.

I think I'm just picky. I don't blame the devs, though—a game of that scope cannot economically include 3 digits of voice actors.

Agreed on all fronts. I saw that there was a Bioshock novel a while back. I wasn't sure if it was just going to be a cash-grab, so I'm glad to hear it's good. I should read it when I get a chance.

Really? I don't recall anyone in Oblivion mentioning the chronic arrow-in-knee problem. Usually it was about mudcrabs/goblins they saw the other day and how they're nasty creatures to be avoided. Oh, and syndicates of wizards were boycotting Imperial goods in Summerset Isle.

Really, NPCs? You can't find anything else to talk about but nasty little creatures and a few ticked off wizards in a faraway land?

I didn't finish because I got bored. I played over 500 hours and even two dragons at a time weren't a challenge.

I actually really dislike Infinite's story, I don't think it's very good. For me, though, the first game is the highlight of the series, with BS2 seeming more like a DLC expansion than a real game.

I started to play with the difficulty toward the end, but by then, it was too late.

I'll go back and try it again at a later date, but I'm beating myself up on Alice: Madness Returns right now.

Somehow I imagine you as a rugged Nord using the Thu'um on people who don't like Classical literature. ;) :p

It's a Word of Power. But in order for Lemex to fully understand and use it, he has to go slay a dragon and absorb its soul.

Lemex is the Dragonborn, so he can learn a Shout in seconds where it would take decades for the rest of us to learn it.

    Fus, RO! :p

And yes, I still haven't gotten over the Skyrim version of the Poetic Edda. I was smiling ear to ear when I heard the Bards talk about it - and so ... yeah, it made me think we could have scoops again, and gave me the spirit of Beowulf. I don't think I'd appreciate Beowulf or the Elder Edda as much without Skyrim, and I'm being totally serious about that.

It's true. One time a friend told me he didn't like Dante. The next thing I remember he was flying off the side of the Throat of the World. :D

Huh, I could have sworn, but some research shows you're right. What is it with me and misquoting people this week?!

Oh well, mudcrabs and wizard problems still isn't as bad as Morrowind, where all the Dunmer race have to say is:

    "I don't like you, outlander."
    "Go away, outlander"
    "Speak quickly, outlander."
"Whatever it is you're looking for, I'm sure I don't know where to find it."
"What, outlander? Why do you disturb me?"
"I will listen, outlander, but make it quick."
"We're watching you... (3 second pause) scum."

I mean, woah, talk about being unwelcomeo_O.

When the devs said the Dunmer were highly xenophobic of anyone not Dunmer, they weren't joking. That said, if you have high personality/charisma, they'll like you.

Anyone pick up Total War: Attila? I know Rome 2 left a lot of people jaded, but I am loving the expansion. Considering it's taking place during such a period of upheaval and chaos, it creates so much more tension and atmosphere. The whole apocalyptic vibe really adds something to rather bland back-drop of Rome 2.

Also (if anyone has played Attila or any other Total War Game) has anyone tried transposing their campaign in to a narrative? Not a crappy AAR, but a legitimate story? With the re-introduction of the family tree in Attila, I feel like there is a lot of potential there.

^ It's my sole regret as a gamer that I never played the Paper Mario series. I've been soothing that regret by blasting away mutated creatures and raiders in Fallout: New Vegas. Scrounging up some supplies to start Lonesome Road DLC, can't believe I waited this long to start it. Dang, what's wrong with me?
