@Link the Writer Which one should I get: Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword? I'm kind of leaning towards the former... It's probably great, but is there anything that'd sway me for the latter?

Damn, haven't played those games in a long time. :p I'd get them both just in case. :D

I think I'll get Twilight Princess first. :) At this point it seems a bit more interesting... Plus, there's Epona. :D (I like horses, mkay...)

It's been an interesting game for me as well. Just beware of the Ordon bridge glitch. If you save and quit the game on one side of the bridge, there's a glitch that makes the bridge disappear upon reboot and you'll be stuck on the wrong side.

EDIT: I'm not certain if it's the Eldin or Ordon bridge, or of the glitch had been fixed since. It was a well known bug when the game was released. It was also on the Wii version, if I remember.

Thanks for the heads up. We'll go for Twilight Princess first, but Skyward Sword is also on our list (right after Resident Evil 4 and Smash Melee).

Resident Evil 4 is an awesome game. I still can't hear a chainsaw without not wanting to freak out. For some reason that always got to me.

    Best Zelda game EVA!!

Let the trash throwing commence!!! :p

But in all seriousness Twilight Princess is a great pick over Skyward.

I've heard a lot of people say RE4 is the best game in the series, so we're lucky it's on our system. I haven't played RE since the first installment on PS1, so I'm really looking forward to experiencing 4.

Does MM have a Wii version? I have a vague memory of seeing some Zelda collection for the Wii, but I thought it included the first 4 games up to A Link to the Past. I'd love MM and Ocarina too, of course, which, I think, does have a Wii version.

Btw, from what I've seen, MM is not only one of the best Zelda games, it's also the creepiest. Which is a good thing. :D

I have only ever played RE4 so I can't really say if it's the best game. Well I did download a rom of RE2 but it didn't really work. But it is a fun game with some pretty creepy moments.

Well if it doesn't you can always find a GameCube online. There is a Zelda collection with the first two Zelda games and OoT and MM. Zelda 2 is a game worth checking out.
Well it can be frustrating(really really frustrating at times) but once you get the hang of it it can be fun.

Oh and MM is easily the creepiest Zelda game. The Save system is at times annoying but a really great game.

Talking of the Resident Evil franchise, I was over in a friend's house recently and he was playing the PS4 port of the remake of 1, (originally made for the Gamecube.) He'd run into a few navigational difficulties and in trying to help him, I realised that my memory of the floor plan of the mansion is totally fubar. For some reason I visualised the contents of the east wing being in the west wing, and vice versa. In fact, about the only rooms I correctly placed were the dining room, (how could I forget that first creepy zombie cut scene) and the room across the hall containing the statue leading to two doorways, one with the bench slid across and full of art canvases, the other leading to demonic doberman corridor. (The one lined with windows on one side and the sliding cabinet hiding ammo on the other)

All else? Arse about face, as we say here. With navigational skills like these I'll not be hitting Everest any time soon. (Or if I do it'll be purely by accident, having only meant to nip out for a pint of milk. ;))

I like 4, it was a bit of a change of pace, but I still get nostalgic over 1 and 2. I still have my original discs and a working Playstation so I might give them a clean and have at them once I've completed my current game, Black Flag.

I see Zelda OoT being mentioned (rightfully so) for best zelda game but not A Link to the past? Great classic!

The remake of Resident Evil on the PC is really good. It's basically the Gamecube version but with HD textures and anti-aliasing. Resident Evil got worse over time in my opinion. The second one was OK but after that it just went down hill, losing its creep factor and becoming more gung-ho. Silent Hill 2 was epic. I hope they remake that with HD textures someday.

If you have a reasonably modern computer you can use an N64 emulator (Project 64). It emulates games really well, but it's difficult to play N64 games on a keyboard because there are so many buttons. If you're willing to part with a small amount of cash, though, you can buy a USB adaptor that allows your to plug you N64 controller into your computer.

I hadn't played Bioshock: Infinite until earlier this year. In fact, it was just after New Years Eve. There was a ridiculous deal on Steam to get BS 1, 2 and 3 for like £3.99 or something crazy. So I though, why not?

I can honestly say, Bioshock: Infinite was one of the best games I had played in a while. Something about it left a profound effect on me. I'm not sure if it was the warm, colourful stained glass windows or the epic struggle to escape from Comstock and the floating city, but when I had completed that game, I had that feeling of both happiness and sadness. A nostalgia that I only ever got with a few games. I spent the next few weeks afterwards listening to this and reliving the adventure in my head:

Witcher 3 has killed my social life. Friends and family have come knocking my door to see if I'm still alive.

So I've always been a casual gamer, and my favorite kinds of games are ones I can immerse into the world and story. The games that always seemed to stir my muse the best have been the Elder Scroll games (Oblivion, Morrowind, etc.), mostly because of the creativity of the sub-stories, the scale of the world and all the other details.

So my question is, what game(s) get you in that writing mood the most? Have you run into any that stand out for you in terms of bringing you into the world and sparking your imagination?

I was much the same until I played it a second time. And then I started to notice things that just annoyed me, or disappointed me. The ending I don't think is very good.

And here's me debating on playing through it again. I'm having second thoughts now!

I can say that the Plasmid things (can't remember what they're called in Infinite) disappointed me. It became a choice of either you wanted to stun your enemies with ravens, throw your enemies with water, or blast them with fireballs. Basically, I spent more time shooting my gun than using the spells.

Vigors? Also, I know why they are there, the game explains it, is that what defines BioShock? Really? Gun and magic, basically. And also, I found some sections intensely boring, especially the middle bit where the game was all 'Hey, we need to do all this complicated stuff, and run halfway across the city *30 minutes later* oh wait, no we don't, I can just pull us into a different universe were we've already done it!' WHY DIDN'T YOU THINK OF THAT BEFORE, ELIZABETH! And that's not to say that it became more shooting galleries than story, and BioShock has always had a problem with giving you action when you want more story and atmosphere, but in Infinite it's just a bit too much.

Also, did you really use that many vigors? I just remember using the fireball and undertoe after a while, everything else just fell by the wayside.

Also, I noticed the massive clue that gave away the ending at the very beginning. It's very subtle, but if you are smart you'll see it.

To be honest, I can't really remember a whole lot about certain aspects. But yeah, I meant the Vigors. Most of them I found pretty useless, so I just use the one that flicks all the enemies up in the air for a brief period of time. Bucking Bronco, it was called. (I had to Google that!) Other than that, I just used the Repeater and Carbine a lot.

I can't remember a whole lot about the start besides going into a lighthouse and sitting in a chair that boosts you into the sky. Then waking up in this church which really warm stained glass windows; it had a really nice ambience about it. The game did seem a bit pointless and tedious at times, and you could shoot a lot of holes in the plot, but overall, I quite enjoyed the story.

one of my fondest memories of a game is FFVII, helped me so much with my reading skills.

another slightly obscure one is xenogears, loved that.

I still consider FF7 as my all time favourite game. I have others that come close, though, like Final Fantasy Tactics, Breath of Fire 3, Suikoden 1 & 2, and of course, who can forget Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
