Not a single mention of Mirror's Edge 2 yet? Am I the only one who's hyped for the second instalment of this wondrous (soon-to-be) series?
For my job I watched the E3 conference yesterday on twitch TV and holy GOD did you guys see the MINECRAFT demo????? Edit: IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T DIED FROM THIS YET http://kotaku.com/microsofts-holographic-minecraft-demo-is-stunning-1711435689
There are other people here paying attention to E3? I've been watching with a group of friends from an Animal Crossing forum. Naturally we were hyped for the Nintendo conference and it got, err, colourful reactions haha. It was a huge disappointment - it's the year of the spin-offs! I've watched the Bethesda, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, and Square Enix conferences. I was dozing off towards the end of Ubisoft and slept through Sony. I also watched the Nintendo World Championships and I'm currently watching the Nintendo Treehouse. They're showing off Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer as I'm typing this. Final Fantasy VII remake, World of Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts 3 have been the highlights for me. God bless Square. Rise of the Tomb Raider, Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, Fallout 4, and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate all look amazing too. Also: I'm so hyped for Animal Crossing amiibo. I'm a sucker for those little things.
That minecraft demo broke my mind. I'm a huge minecraft nerd and my head almost exploded when I saw it. Just think of what thy can do with that tech on other games. The future of gaming is bright once more.
Everyone plays it for different reasons. Myself? I love to join servers and build with other people. There is a PVP aspect to the game that--while it is well developed--I don't touch. I can join a server, role play as a peasant, build a castle and kingdom, create an empire and rule from my blocky throne. I can join bands of explores and traverse an infinite landscape, discovering its Wonders. I can embark into the wilderness, building massive structure for my own creative delight in total solitude. It's digital Legos with zombies, and that suits me just fine.
It's been a pretty good E3 so far. For all their flaws I love Bethesda games, so I was already hyped for Fallout 4 but Todd Howard's presentation was better than I was expecting. It looks like they've improved the combat, taking in some of the improvements Obsidian added in, and also some ideas from Fallout modders. I like that it seems to have better combat animations- characters and monsters reacted more realistically depending on the location and force of damage in the demo. The customisation and modding options for weapons and the power armour are very welcome. The most exciting part looks to be the settlement builder- I wonder how long it will take modders and the community to upload and share the settlements they make- hopefully someone will make a mod allow for importing of other players' settlements that you can then have your own compete against. Speaking of mods, it's good that consoles will eventually have access to some mods, as they are a huge part of the Bethesda experience on PC. As for my other most anticipated game of this year, XCOM 2 is looking pretty good. I like the changes to gameplay balance by taking homefield advantage away from the player- it looks like in XCOM 2 if you want to salvage something or rescue a wounded party member you're going to have to carry them off the battlefield, and now the aliens are going to be able to call in reinforcements. Hopefully they bring back mechs, as every game can improved by including mechs. Maybe I'm in the minority, but the trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda was disappointing. Given how long Bioware has been working on it, I was hoping to see some gameplay. Likewise, I'm eagerly anticipating gameplay videos of Dishonoured 2, although it's obviously still early in development. I'm not sure what to think of the FFVII remake- nostalgia is so thick for that game, there are so many ways it could go wrong. I'm not sure I trust the team that brought us the Final Fantasy XIII saga to bring VII to a modern audience. It will sell from name value alone, but though there's no game announced at this year's E3 I more want to be good, it's also the game I'm most nervous about. I have mix feelings for Dark Souls 3- Dark Souls is my favourite game, but Dark Souls 2 felt a little rushed. I think 2016 is too early for another Souls game, hopefully it will be pushed back into 2017. At least Miyazaki is back and this game isn't a console exclusive so I'm expecting better performance than Bloodborne. Deus Ex Mankind Divided looks interesting, it will be interesting to see how the new augmentations are implemented into gameplay, but the narrative looks a little messy right now. A couple of smaller games stood out to me, Unravel and Cuphead. Both look adorable. The Mirror's Edge prequel looks intriguing. Hoping the rest of E3 will feature some more PC games, now that the console makers have had their press conferences.
I played Minecraft when it was in alpha, and it was amazing. I don't even know how to put it's appeal into words, but I'll try. Having an infinite procedurally generated world around you to explore is the first wonder of the game. So many bizarre and interesting formations, caves with surprises around every corner, resources to be collected to advance your settlement. Legos are insanely popular because of how flexible they are for your imagination; you can build anything you can put your mind to. That's what Minecraft offered, but in a video game with unlimited building blocks and a multitude of block-types. Anything you could think of, you could build. And something about being alone in this world, and building your own settlement was exciting and new to games. It was such a simple concept that had infinite possibilities. And for me: the music. It was so good. I became so absorbed into that game back in alpha that I'm brought near to tears when I hear the original soundtrack. Nostalgia is a hell of a thing. I can say, easily, Minecraft has been my best experience in gaming. If I could erase my memory and play it like it was brand new again, I'd do it in an instant. The game has lost it's touch for me now, though. Ever since beta I can no longer get into it. I try to return to it constantly, but it just doesn't have the same feel.
Hmmm Fallout 4 apparently will support console mods, starting with the Xbox One and then PS4 sometime later. The mods will be made on PC but will somehow be able to ported on to the consoles somehow or something of the like. Wonder how that will work out....hmm
This E3 has been amazing so far, but I'm disappointed in the lack of virtual reality talk. I understand though since it's such a new platform; it will take awhile for the major titles to come to fruition. Looking forward to Insomniac's game Edge of Nowhere for Oculus, but besides that nothing has really caught my attention. Sony announced a few games for Morpheus, but they are a bit lackluster. I was hoping for something better from them, but developers have only had their dev kits for about a year so I understand. I'm sure by next E3 we'll be seeing some ambitious VR games as devs will have had two years at that point. Oculus did announce their motion sensing controllers which is very, very exciting. Can't wait for preorders to open up. Hopefully they aren't some ridiculous price like the Razer Hydras ($500 or something). Haven't heard anything from Valve about their SteamVR platform, so I'm curious when we'll hear about games from them. I was thinking this would be the year of VR, but it looks like that's going to be 2016 instead. At least there are some great games coming to hold me over until then. Owning a PS4 and PC I'm only going to touch on those two platforms (Sorry Xbox). I'm going to go ahead and start my list with a surprise announcement I'm really excited for. Horizon Zero Dawn: The cinematic had me extremely excited. Civilization has fallen apart, and humanity as devolved into tribal culture. Better yet, the humans don't even seem aware that their own race was responsible for the decayed cities left behind. They just call them, "The old ones." I was intrigued, wondering where they'd go with this. I loved the concept so far. Then... robotic dinosaurs? That was definitely unexpected. At first I thought, "What the hell is this? Not what I was hoping for." I still feel this way, but perhaps they'll have a really good story behind it. I'm guessing humans created these robots, and these robots then took over. Another, "AI will destroy us all," type of story. I'm still excited as the gameplay looked fun, and I want to know what kind of story they have in store. Will definitely be picking this up. No Man's Sky: Been watching this game since their original announcement at VGX last year. I was amazed. I hadn't realized how badly I wanted this game until it was presented to me. An infinite procedural universe with (literally) quadrillions of planets to explore? Yes, please. I eagerly awaited to hear more, but nothing came. Then comes E3, and surprise, surprise, No Man's Sky at the Sony Conference. The trailer once again had me hooked and hyped. Was waiting for a release date then... nothing. Well, okay, I can deal with that. Surely we'll be getting a release date soon. Then the months continue to pass, we hear nothing more aside from an article here and there. Then E3 is approaching again, and I'm thinking surely we'll get a release date now. Nope, no release date, but Sean Murray did say they'd be announcing it soon. Then today at the PC Gaming Show he said he had planned on announcing the release date at E3, but something came up and he couldn't. This is good news; hopefully we'll be hearing about a release date within the next few months. Definitely a day one pick up for me. I just wish the announced VR support through PlayStation's Project Morpheus. The Last Guardian: Well, it's finally here. I know it's been hyped for a very long time, but I never paid it any attention; had no clue what it was. Sony opened the show with it, and everyone seemed very excited. I'm not one of them. Game looks alright, and I might pick it up. I don't quite understand all the hype behind it as I haven't read on it. Didn't really look like a game that deserved the amount of hype it received, but that's just my opinion. Also, I can't help but feel that his beastly companion is going to die, and I can't deal with animal companion deaths. They make me depressed for days. Spoiler Watching I Am Legend was the worse. Uncharted 4: I own the first three, but haven't played them. Got them on PS3 shortly before the PS4 release, but soon after sold my PS3. So now I have nothing to play them on. I'll be playing Uncharted 4 when it comes out, and hoping I can make it through without having played the previous games. It's worked so far for The Witcher 3, so hopefully this is the same. Final Fantasy VII: This was a major surprise to me. I've always hoped for a modern remake of The Legend of Lagaia (A little known game my family used to play together. Very final fantasy like). I never played the original FF7, but I know it's a fan favorite. I'll definitely be picking this one up. It'll be interesting to see the contrast between the responses from people who played the original vs. those who didn't. Star Wars: Battlefront: Woot woot! Extremely excited for this one. My brother and several friends of ours used to play this game nonstop. It contains some of my fondest memories. I'm a little worried about it being published by EA, but hopefully they understand the amount of responsibility they have for this game. I doubt it though because, well, they're EA. They don't seem to give a shit about people's response to the game because they know it's going to make them millions anyways. I really hate to support them, but I can't not buy this game. It's a must have for nostalgic reasons alone. Sadly, to me at least, it looked like Battlefield 4 with a Star Wars reskin. Hopefully it amounts to more than that. The gameplay trailer was masterfully done, I must admit. I got chills at the Darth Vader reveal. Dishonored 2: The first game was fantastic, but I only rented it for PS3. I just bought it through the Steam Summer Sale so I'll be replaying it before it's release. Another game that is definitely a day 1 pick up for me. Looking forward to playing Emily (An important side character of the first game). Will be watching intently for more information on this one. Until Dawn: This game looks interesting. Love the concept. Basically taking the teen horror movie and making it a video game. I love the idea that any of the characters can die, all based on the decisions you make. I'm not good with horror games, but this is one I'll be trying to get through. It looks too interesting to pass up. Looking forward to seeing how the game plays. The concept alone is enough to make me pick this one up. There's nothing else I can remember being overly hyped about, so I think I'll end thi.... Wait, I'm forgetting one thing: Fallout 4: Had to make the formatting all crazy to show my excitement. I've been waiting so long for this game. After all the hoaxes it's finally a reality, and it's better than I think anyone could have imagined. They definitely listened to their fans and made improvements where they were needed. The gunplay looks so much better, I love the new VATS. A lot of people have complained about the graphics being bad, but I think they're crazy. This game looks gorgeous. I'm excited to play in Boston and see what The Institute is up to. I'm happy to see, what appear to be, some actual post-apocalyptic cities. Can't wait to check out the city within Fenway Park. I love how they showed some basic gamplay; things you'd expect from Fallout 4. Then they cut to the mobile game Fallout Shelter as if that was all they had for Fallout 4. I was upset since I hoped to see more, but I was happy to have seen anything at all. Then they finish Fallout Shelter announcement. Now we get the, "but wait, there's more," moment as they return to Fallout 4. Settlement building?!? Weapon customization?!? Armor customization?!? Oh, Bethesda, you spoil us. I couldn't believe the amount of new features they brought forward. I can already see myself spending thousands of hours in this game, which isn't good since... It comes out November 11th 2015! I literally pounding my desk in excitement when they announced that. I was expecting a 2016 release date like almost every other title at this years E3. Other companies need to take a seat and learn a thing or two from Bethesda. They know how to get people hyped for their games. I cannot stand waiting around for 2-3 years after a games announcement for it to finally be release. I lose all my excitement in that time. They kept Fallout 4 a secret until the week of E3, and then release it 5 months later. I haven't been so excited for a game ever. Right, back to why it's bad I'll be spending thousands of hours in it... freshman year of college. I can already see the procrastinated assignments and sleepless nights. Hopefully I have the will to pull away from the game for more important things... ha, nothing is more important than Fallout. Just kidding, I don't think I'll have too much issue with time management, but any spare minute I have will be dedicated to this game. There actually are a few more titles I'm excited for, but I don't feel like writing about them right now. Perhaps I'll return to this post for an edit.
Yet further evidence that the people who run latter-day Squeenix haven't a clue. Rather than work out why Final Fantasy VII was so good and Final Fantasy XIII so monumentally shit, they've taken the retrograde step of just re-creating what they've already done in the name of easy money. No doubt it will be a very, very good game. I'd just like to see a very, very good new game rather than a remake of something almost 20 years old. I'll still get it, though. I'd rather see a updated 1997 epic than a certain 2010 waste of 60 hours of my life rehashed.
@Dante Dases sqenix has finally admitted what the fans have known for years: they suck. They stated for YEARS that they would only rerelease FF7 when they made a game that trumped it in success, and all they have provided IMHO is crap. And now that they have decided to redo 7, it tells me that they lost sight of what made them great and have nothing else to give. While I am excited for the remake, my faith in the company is officially lost. RIP Square. You are missed.
Played a bit of Titan Souls today, a really nice game of one shot boss slaying. If you like harsh and unforgiving games that is a game for you, some bosses will take hours to beat and when you finally do, it really does impart a accomplished feeling.
Has anyone else played the FFX remastered (after playing the original?) I'm kinda disapointed. Everyone got a facelift and they're all Barbie doll smooth--like their faces are made of hotdogs-- Yuna's hair was "touched up" but it goes from being light brown to almost black every other cutscene so it's like she's addicted to coloring it. The music got amped up so loud that during cutscenes you can hardly hear characters talk. And they dumbed down the boss fights! They're so easy now T^T way to take the jelly out of my donut FFX.
I figured I would try posting a question on this thread, as this is the demographic whom I'm aiming the question towards: Would anyone with gaming and some good computer/internet knowledge be willing to be a consultant for a story I'm trying to develop? (I'm still in plotting stages.) The premise is around the MC being a gamer (computer console) and a good chunk of action would happen in game and likely involve some behind the scenes computer tech info. The gaming environment would likely be mmorpg, and the MC would be capable of hacking the system somehow (but not for malicious intent, likely more heroic-ish). I'm somewhat knowledgeable about gaming terms and have played stuff like WOW, LOL, Guild Wars (1&2), Star Wars: TOR, and some others. Anyways, if anyone on here would be willing and patience with me as I figure some of the gaming and computer info out for my story, and be willing to answer questions, that would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you. I will probably PM you as questions develop. I'm still developing plot, so I'm not sure where this is all going! I appreciate your willingness to help.
Damn someone mentioned Mirror's Edge up there, I remember playing that, I can recall the very first few moments soaring over rooftops and clicking whichever button to rotate mid-air to glance at the precipice I'd just flung myself from, interesting experience that one. I downloaded Metro 2033 or whatever it's called cause it was on xbox games with gold, think I recall watching a playthrough of it and it was kinda creepy so looking forward to it. Playing a lot of yoshi's island on the snes lately, always been a gem of mine. I'd play some of my adored gamecube classics but the damn thing broke a while ago and I'm poor enough so had to sell them for rubbish prices, I will avenge this one day and buy them all again xD Oh yeah Agario on the tablet is immense, it's basically consumerism, the big blob slowly trundles along and digests the little blobs, online circles fleeing for their rotund lives or bumbling along to snap up the small fries, good fun!
Animal Crossing for the Gamecube was something I played every single day, I mean every single day for years until my gamecube broke two years ago, BOB the purple cat is an absolute legend and Jay the bird and this perpetually ticked off grumpsville dog I can't remember his name which shocks me actually. Waiting for Nook's to open to see if they have something from a set I hadn't completed yet, nothing comes close, well maybe finally finding the red rock or catching a coalacanth or whatever it was called. My fave time was sunset standing by the ocean and hearing it slosh back and forth! I've been playing Skyrim recently, complete noob to the series, my god what an astounding experience! I was traveling light intending to grab some herbs north of Whiterun, not that I knew what was up there, didn't look like woods from what I saw, I didn't see much to be honest because within two minutes I was in the middle of a field and this weird screech occurred... I'm only level 6, I've killed the dragon at the tower the other day so I know of dragons but I was pretty far away launching arrows at it like a true wimp. Anyhoo, I think nah no chance a dragon comes this soon so carry on strolling in the sunshine, then this freaking beast pretty much lands smack bang on my skull and I've got these seething jaws snapping in my face, I am appalled and leg it to the nearest rock, proceeding to charge out and slash it then return behind the rock, through all this a little jerk wolf is snapping behind my back, I put it out of its misery then a sabre tooth tiger is literally leaping onto me, I manage to kill that and eventually the dragon using all my food and potions, then I'm too heavy to fast travel to Whiterun, cue the slowest snail trudge across a field know to man... madness!
