Go get yourself a small, fireproof safe and thank me later. And then find a safe place for the safe so you don't lose the safe.
So I had some pork loin in the freezer and tried making Chinese green pepper pork (chin chao ros, or something like that in Japanese). Did myself a favor and looked up a couple recipes rather that just shooting blindly, and it came out good. Like, Mrs. A asked for it to be added to the "usual menu" alongside spaghetti with meat sauce and curry rice. That's high praise indeed, and it's not hard to make, so there we go.
I met a friend in a coffee shop this afternoon and (after gabbed and caught up for a while) had my most productive writing session in months! I took an old opening scene I had written last year and then abandoned and started expanding it into a real story. Still a ways to go, but I feel great about the progress.
As a 90's kid, I obviously loved Jim Carrey. I've been revisiting his old movies and they hold up remarkably well, partly due to nostalgia I'm sure but damn, what an actor. There will never be another Jim Carrey.
what?? There must be at least one Jim Carrey movie that anybody on the planet can appreciate. I mean...Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and the Truman Show were critically acclaimed dramas, he has some very funny comedies...go out of your way?
You betcha. Critically acclaimed or not, his take on acting doesn't appeal to me, and I can't imagine why I'd keep watching his movies in search of the one I might appreciate. Stating my thoughts on the subject wasn't meant to throw a shadow on anyone else's taste in movies.
Well, in my case, I'd say "Mission accomplished". You steered up the memories of my favourite scenes from "The Mask" (When he tries to demonstrate the effects of the mask, but it's daytime and the dancing (and if I remember correctly, singing?) police officers. Thanks.
YO!!!!! I'm VERY happy today! I collect old computers. Bought this "untested" 1990's Compaq Armada from eBay for £13. It arrived today. Wasn't working at all. Big bummer and unhappy all day, but I didn't give up and did some surgery, and after a few hours... BOOM! Very cool computer. It'll make nice friends with my Toshiba 310CDT once I'm done repairing it. The current solution is temporary so I'll need to come up with something better.
There are no words I could say about a Jim Carrey movie that could express how much I loath them. But my first exwife thought they were funny as hell. The world rocks on as always.
Back in the 80s, I watched a sitcom called The Duck Factory, which starred a then-unknown Jim Carrey. It was a good show, because he actually tried acting in it, rather than just capering about ignoring everybody around him. He was quite good on SNL as Joe Biden. But apart from that...
It's the first of the month so I bought a membership at the makerspace down the road. Not writing, but spent the whole afternoon painting a plastic model car with a Lovecraftian theme. Visual creative work is fun too.
All the crap that I had to deal with earlier in the week is pretty well sorted out, and tonight I spent 2 1/2 hours making up silly songs with my friends. I don't know if time heals all wounds, but having fun certainly aids the recovery process!
It's been a rough bit for me and today as I was at the store, the cashier asked me something I didn't hear, so I asked him what he said and he was offering me a shit ton of Valentine's day stickers. I was going to say no, but I said yes, and they all made me smile, so I guess this is one of those "little things" that makes life okay for a moment.
This was a good weekend. My wife had her surgery Friday and all is going well, road to recovery looks well-lit. Family get-together with all bar eldest brother on Friday evening was very pleasant (I've been outed by my daughter (My daughter!) who told my mother I'd had a story published, but the sibs all said nice things about it. I even showed them a few more). Ireland beat Wales, Scotland beat England in 6 Nations. And today had an air of Spring.
I finished a new humor short about giant squid last night, and I’m rather proud of the phrase "a froth of arms and ink.” Yay for finding exactly the right words!
Finally finished the first draft to my next novel Women of the Plains, a tale set in prehistoric Africa around 100,000 years ago. It ended up not being that long (almost 50k), but perhaps revisions will bulk up the prose and story. Anyway, feeling pretty triumphant about it already!
