It does make more sense to start on C. But yeah, I learned the hard way, there is no easy way. For me, chord placements are difficult, because I don't know my intervals too well. (Any tips?) Although, I am a beginner on the piano. Your teacher sounds amazing. (Does he do long-distance lessons?)
Tips for choral voicing? Not really. A guitar harmonizes while a singer can only sing one note at a time. I guess I would practice against another instrument (or an app that plays pitches). Or another singer. Y'all must practice harmony in some fashion, no? Either way, get something that plays a note, then practice singing thirds, fifths or whatever to the note. They all sound the same relative to your starting spot.
Yeah, I do have a singing teacher and practice as much as I can. I was asking more about piano. Because I'm still searching for one that works well for me.
Some people can sing two notes at the same time. Freddy Mercury and dude from Police Academy who did all the sound effects with his voice. So, anybody only singing one note at a time, get on it—you're just not trying hard enough! (Kidding!)
Intervals on a piano are easy. Just count the keys: 1 key: minor 2nd 2: major 2nd 3: minor 3rd 4. Major 3rd 5: perfect 4th 6: augmented 4th/flat 5th 7: perfect 5th 8: minor (flat) 6th 9: major 6th 10: minor (flat) 7th 11: major 7th 12: octave Bing bang boom!
I don't have a recording of me singing that, no. As I said, I rehearsed it, but I kept making mistakes (alas!), and discarded the recordings. I do, however, have several other records that I am happy with - for instance: Come Again, Sweet Love (John Dowland, 1597). A bitter-sweet, melancholy song, typical of Dowland. April is in my Mistress' face (Thomas Morley, 1594). A short, sad paean to unrequited love. Normally done as an SATB piece, but my voice isn't quite high enough for the SA register, so I had to make do by singing both the tenor and baritone lines (not at the same time, obviously! ) and then putting them together, so the end result means I'm singing in harmony with myself. Danny Boy (Trad.), which I recorded for my mom, as it's her favourite song. I don't think it needs an introduction. Hope you enjoy.
Okay, I tried singing the notes today for Phantom, rather than bubbling and actually got a D6#. So, one half note away! (Singing!)
*unobtrusively accompanies Gravy on the theorbo* The half-notes are often the hardest to get. Good luck. (Oh, and if you haven't seen a theorbo before -- check them out. They're honestly amazing). Sounds familiar. I was due to submit my next chapter this morning (it's Friday evening here now). I got about 70% of my next chapter done this week, despite suffering from writer's block for half the week, and jotted down some notes on how the next 30% should go ... and then this morning, with just one hour to go before work, I had a sudden epiphany and changed my notes to include the beginning of the final scene, plus changing the notes slightly to get the scene to make more sense. Weird revelations and inspirations can strike at any time. That's why I always keep a notepad and pen handy. (Yes, I'm a dinosaur that way. Yes, I know that I can make notes on my mobile phone. But notepads, unlike mobile phones, don't have a battery that can run out. Nothing like being crazy prepared)
My colleague really liked her birthday tomato seeds. Her smile almost hit her ears and she pinned the card up on the wall by her desk, then showed the seeds off to some of our co-workers. That was not the reaction I had anticipated- I had expected a quiet 'thanks' and maybe a smile then for them to be stuffed in her bag. On the subject of notepads vs phones, I see that my counterparts in the dry-land police are using little datapad thingies now. I like my notebook just fine. I don't think I could be arsed trying to thumb-type out what a witness is saying at the scene of a crime when it's already hard enough trying to keep up in my fairly speedy cursive. Never mind the hassle of trying to use a touchscreen in the rain or near spray.
It is fall weather now! (side note... i hate cold and "fall weather" because of said cold) I'm happy because I can wear my vintage-y sweaters and hounds-tooth tweed slacks and skirts (fall is good for mens-cut slacks by far!) Forget "Han Solo" Season.... it's "1970s Librarian" Season!
Otherwise known as Jacket Weather. We've just passed through the mini-season I call Nutfall, when nature drops all her nuts on us. Where I live, with every house overhung massively by trees, you can hear it going on all day and all night for almost a week, nuts dropping like popcorn. Gotta be careful when you're out walking on the streets, you can get hit on the head. It doesn't really hurt unless it's a walnut though, those are like little gnarled hardballs. When they hit a roof or a deck it's like a gunshot.
I have a neighbor that likes to park directly in front of my house (like, as soon as i step out of my house, there is his car) because he doesnt like the berries and nuts falling on his car when he parks in his driveway (also, "Nutfall" is pretty great! Imma borrow it!)
The calendar says autumn, but the temperature says July. I had to change my jeans for shorts to work in the garden.
The American fall apparently makes retailers here in Australia go a bit cuckoo. I went into our local K-mart, and they were stocked up on Hallowe'en stuff ... OK, a bit weird, since we're technically in autumn but coming into summer soon, and Hallowe'en isn't really an Aussie holiday, but whatever floats your boat. But next to the Hallowe'en stuff, what do I see? Christmas sweaters, with the word "Christmas" and a little snowflake stitched on them. Hmm. Has no-one told K-mart what hemisphere they're in? Little hint: Christmas in Australia is the middle of summer ... ================== Anyway, what's making me happy? So, I tried out my range on the piano earlier today -- haven't tried it for a while. I found that I have 2.5 octaves below middle-C and an additional octave above ... and if I use my falsetto, I can get another octave. I am quietly happy about that.
If it's going to be summer soon, then aren't you in spring now? I mean, it was recently winter there, right? Or are your seasons all mixed up like your weird animals are?
Yeah, K-Mart brings me back. They'be been gone for like a decade around here, and Venture along with them, though those lasted a bit longer. Now instead we have giant Wal-marts and Targets. I had no idea K-Marts existed in other countries.
Whoops! You're right, we're in spring now. *blush* I always get confused, because I always associate spring with rebirth, sunshine, lambs gamboling in fields, and like that. Instead, we still have clouds and rain. By contrast, our autumn comes after summer, and is still warm and rainless. Weird. We have Targets too, but no Wal-marts. (I hope and pray we never have Wal-marts, because the next stage would be weird Wal-mart people. Like these guys: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_of_Walmart)
