New Job with new crazy hours; I've finally gotten the flow of things down and don't feel like I'm screwing everything up. Score! Also, 4 dollar credt average per call? Pffft, not going to make that goal this month. It makes me slightly happy to give credits.

I know him quite well. He's the brother of my best friend. Although he might not be the same Michael Collins as the one you are thinking of. :)

Well, keep in mind, that my history professor chose to have us read 'Michael Collins' by Peter Hart, and watch a movie about Michael Collins with Liam Neeson and Julia Roberts (I know, I know. Believe me, Mackers. I know.)

Michael Collins seemed to be an all right person. He had a firm head on his shoulders, and was a master at making connections. I think his story has taught me that the right connections will carry you far in life.

He probably wouldn't want to relax, though. If I went up to him and said, 'Hey, want to take a break and go watch some GAA sports?' he'd go, 'Go away, silly man! I have work to do!'

I did agree with him in terms of the treaty, though, that created the Irish Free State. Y'know, it was either this or Britain pretty much kicks the crap out of all of Ireland for their Irish War of Independence. The movie was heavily biased against de Valera, though, protraying him as a sinister man who wanted Collins out of the picture. Valera intrigues me. I'll probably buy the book about him by Tim Pat Coogan.

I am happy that I still remember all this! xD

Yea read the book by Tim Pat Coogan, it's interesting. De Valera was a genius when it came to maths. He was very politically astute. Fascinating personality. The fact he was an American citizen allowed him to escape execution by the British after the 1916 Easter rising. His portrayal in the Michael Collins film is laughable at times, but it's still a decent film. Collins knew of the ramifications of when he signed the treaty that partitioned Ireland, but he had little choice. He said himself he was signing his own death warrant...A prophetic statement if ever there was one. It's kind of sad because the effects of partition are still being felt in Ireland today.

Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention about Collins. He was ruthless. He almost single-handedly orchestrated the intelligence war against the British before the war of independence, which culminated in all those assasinations shown in the film.

Was it ever resolved whether he was an American citizen? Anyway, that didn't save Tom Clarke.

Where does Parnell fit into all this?

Yeah, you can tell that I've read Joyce.

Charles Stewart Parnell was before Collins and de Valera...Mid to late 19th century I think. I'm not good with dates. But he was a big player in trying to establish Home Rule and putting forward Irish nationalism in the British parliament.

Oh an Tom Clarke...There's a GAA club very close to me named after him. I didn't know he was American. Unionists view the naming of Irish Republicans in football clubs as insensitive and as a glorification of terrorism. Even though Thomas Clarke fought for Ireland's freedom way before the troubles of the 1960-90s which was a whole different animal altogether

Edit: don't mean to de-rail this thread btw lol

I've handed all my final year work in! I expected to feel more...Free, I guess, and more excited than this, but oh well. My first novel has received its first two rejections, but I'm gonna keep sending. In the meantime, I'm working on my new WIP which I'm feeling very positive about. I've got 19k down so far and it's well on its way! :D

    Congrats Ashleigh!

I have two more days of hell and then I'm done with my first year of grad school! And then I get a much deserved break. Gotta score a Rorschach and write a program proposal before that, but it's pulling to a close.

Thanks Lemex, I dare not hope, because you know how it is, nobody wants to pay an artist, but this could be a genuine offer, yay! :D

    Second. Book. Finished.

Today is a glorious day. I don't care what happens now, as long as it doesn't involve family death or my own. I'm just going to enjoy the peacefulness of no deadlines and all the time in the world to myself.

I sold my first (and only) script last night over enchiladas. I submitted a short story, and it was picked by someone from the Dallas Producers Association! By next year I will have my very own tiny little IMDB credit. YAY!

I am so jealous. Congratulations! If I could get through the first draft of one, I'd be happy.

Graduating high school in a few weeks and have a full ride scholarship to a community college. The less time I spend worrying about money, the more time I can spend writing.
