I just crossed the 90,000 on my novel. Yeah!

Also, I had an epiphany about my characters beginning. The brother and sister leads in the novel lost their father sometime ago, and a lot of their motivations were linked to this lose. My beginning kinda moved to quickly and didn't establish my characters that well before the plot starts. I was wracking my brain for a way to develop these siblings while keeping the interest up. Then it suddenly came to me: have the father die right at the beginning of the story. A whole plethora of scenes and events became instantly better and made more sense.

And thus my post in the happy thread.

My English teacher said my English Language coursework was fantastic and he said I should continue writing as my work shows real talent.
I'm crying so much internally from that comment right now.

Finally got my draft done at just over 65k! (It's YA sci-fi). Man, that last 10k was brutal. It was just terrible quality and I kept writing myself into corners. But It's done!

    WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I've slept 4 hours in the past 48 hours, and those 4h were 24 hours ago. I had to stay up all night working on a translation because the client of the company I freelance for had fucked up the source material: the translation is actually 7224 words instead of the 903 words they sent to us, yet the deadline is in, oh, 2h 15min from now. But I suppose they have no choice but to flex a bit with the DL 'cause it was their fault. Regardless, I feel oddly good: even though I'm starting to see things double, and I'm consuming caffeine like it's going out of style, there's something nice about earning a living writing. Finally. And it's nice to get to do the work I studied for for years in the uni. It's all good

I was going to put this in the unhappy thread, but it's really too light. Every day, whenever we come home from anyplace, my son takes off all his clothes and runs around in his underpants. Then he complains he is cold. He rejects out of hand the obvious solution. It's driving me nuts. One day I will use this information against him.

@Liz, that really does seem to fit better here :p You should probably take pictures, then show them to all his girlfriends and make a slideshow for his wedding...

My mom is going to do that to me...

I am in dread of it...

    :p

Guess that's why the practice is so widespread, i.e. been there, suffered that. Luckily KaTrian appears to have mostly forgotten about the photos, and my mom hasn't pulled out the album in a good while. Let us hope the era of peace and tranquility is a long one.

PS. I've been translating pretty much non-stop for around 36 hours, and the damn thing is finally just about done. Now it's time for some sweet oblivion.

Today I'm happy, in part, because the weather was both sunny and warm. It's been cold in Maine lately. But the meteorologists are saying that the next few days, including the upcoming weekend, is going to be like today.

    And that's cool with me.

My mother is 79 and reads incessantly. Last week I sent her a copy of a magazine with my latest story in it. When I talked to her on the phone yesterday, she said it was my best story so far. For me, there is no greater praise.:)

That's great, jeepea! I wish that could happen to me, too. (Even if I do get a story published, it won't happen, because my mother passed away a few years ago.)

I'm sorry to hear that about your mother, minstrel. A mother's support is hard to replace. But don't worry about your writing; your successes are out there, waiting for you to catch up with them.

***pulls soap box from trash bin and places it into center of the room, then climbs up on it*** Hi everyone. I would like to share with everyone that I have finished the first draft of my first novel! It's about 130,000 hand written words that took me 558 days to assemble. I plan on leaving it sit for three weeks in a dark corner by itself while I relish in the excitement of completing it. Then Iproceede to the cutting block and trim away the fat as I enter the first draft in to the computer and turn it into a second draft. I wanted to scream my excitement from the mountain tops, but I lack mountains where I live. So thank you all for listening. Enjoy your weekends. ***steps down off the box and replaces it in the trash bin from with it came***
