time to try and guess wreybies' password ( I doubt he's been daft enough to leave it set to username: admin, password: password ... although I did once know an admin who did - that site got 'hacked' and its staff room posts made public )
I'm starting a new job next week. It was originally supposed to be at the University in the next city over from mine - I applied for several and they got there first. But today the company said they were struggling to find me enough hours there and asked me if there were any other universities I would consider working at. I enthusiastically named the one in my town, and now I'll be working there instead. No commuting, no worrying that the train or bus will break down with me on it, no travel expenses at all, and I'll be able to work more hours since I won't have to travel in. I'm so happy
Wrey and I went to the same spook skool, it's probably the square root of a base 11 prime number expressed in proto-Cyrillic, and he's feeling guilty about making it that obvious.
If the elusive lesser spotted Daniel should happen to flutter through the staff room window to check how y'all doing in Wrey's absence please pop him in a cage so I can talk to him about the resources section before he migrates again
So my painstaking research to find out the name of his dog and his husbands birthday has all been wasted then
Joking aside, this might be a problem if he's out of touch for weeks (as is being forecast in some circles.) Never mind the fact that he'll probably have a lot on his plate when he does return. Leaving aside the issue of his present well-being, which we're all hoping for, it might be an idea, once he comes back, to figure out a way to deputise a bit more? Things could get a bit sticky with no administrators around for weeks on end, and Daniel apparently not contactable.
Holy shit! Just saw a photo on Facebook of my friend @Lew shaking hands with George RR Martin at the Historical Writers' Conference in Arizona!
Argh! You had me right up until "Arizona"! Arizona is a sun-blasted haven for scorpions and the bad kind of snakes. And there's no water. Even the Colorado River is trying desperately to leave. And it's full of towns with names like Tombstone and Tucson (which is drunk for Tombstone) and Flagstaff (a flagstaff is really just an exceptionally tall Tombstone with a rag at the top) and Bullhead City, named after the head of a bull whose body lies under a Tombstone. Let's face it: everywhere in Arizona is some kind of Tombstone, so it's not a good place to be if you're still somehow clinging to life.
You forgot Winslow, Holbrook, and Kingman. Though where I live it snows on the cacti. If you get off the freeway in Provo and take Highway 80 you get a long but pretty drive , if you don't mind the occasional laudromat/gas stations.
So my WOP (Work On Pause) that I shelved nearly a year ago because I had no idea where it was going.... Woke up this morning and a whole bunch of unresolved questions, motivations, and scenes just shook themselves out and are there now. Like on the level of the book still needs to be written (which is still no easy task), but I finally know what I need to say. Time to get outlining
Thing is no one other than wrey or daniel can give mod powers - tbh Minstrel and go pretty much have the modding in the bag anyway. The best thing the rank and file can do is not be arseholes to each other and minimise mod workload until Wrey returns ( which isnt to say that we should all become raging asshats after that)
I think the mods can handle things pretty well in Wrey's absence. Aside from his admin powers, the thing that makes him particularly useful in running the place is that his job enables him to pop in pretty much any time he's conscious, so he basically never leaves the board.
Moderators will be fine given assured kapo support. Otherwise, somebody needs to call in the big guy. I won't mention the legend by name, but he is powerful and tolerated absolutely no dissent during his magnificent reign.
We do need to come up with temporary measures until regular modding is resumed. I think everyone should give their passwords to @matwoolf who will temporarily rule through martial law.
I'm 100% behind this idea and have already sent @matwoolf the password to not only my account here, but also all of my bank accounts with corresponding account information.
