Seemingly without fanfare, Dr. Pepper has arrived in (returned to? The packaging says something about a 20th anniversary) the realm of His Imperial Majesty Akihito (Heisei Tenno), in the final year of his benevolent reign.

Thank you, Your Imperial Majesty, for allowing* the nectar of my youth to grace these shores.

*I've got no fucking idea why Dr. Pepper hasn't been available here, nor do I know why it's suddenly popped up on shelves, but I do know that Emperor Akihito has nothing to do with it. He's got so little power he makes Meghan Markle Windsor look like Joseph(ine) Stalin by comparison. For example, there was very nearly a constitutional crisis when he expressed a desire to retire, which he's doing next year. See, the office and duties of Emperor are controlled by the government, and the Emperor is legally forbidden from interfering in the affairs of government. So saying "I'm tired, I wish I could step down" could be seen as an attempt to influence the state, which would be...

    ...wait for it...

    ...a power grab.

He seems like a nice man, and they've agreed to allow him to abdicate next spring. I hope he has the chance to enjoy a nice, cold glass of Dr. Pepper when he does so.

There's been almost angst free shopping going on!

It's so weird to actually have a steady income and only myself to treat. I'm usually a very economic and cheap person (because I had to be) but I feel like I was worth a few things for this summer. And socks. All my socks decided to break last month and I desperately need new ones.

And there's been some birthday shopping for Lost, of course. Because if he's gonna brag about all my birthday presents on here I gotta say that I've at least started to look for things for him as well...

My original minimum goal for length of my novel was 55k. And I hit that today with at least 20% of my story to go. Yaaaayy! That will allow me more leeway when it comes to cutting stuff later that needs to be cut. Because I know there is crap that will ultimately be cut out.

CJ Sansom is releasing the 7th book in his Matthew Shardlake series in October 2018... This is news of the best kind for me. I found the books late, read the first 5, got the 6th when it came out and loved every one of them. I have been scouring the forums for what feels like forever for news of a new book... So happy/Excited!

Wife and I are finally "home" in NH after 17 days in RI looking for jobs and apartments. I have "home" in quotes because we found a great loft (original bricks, steel beams, exposed duct-work, eight-foot industrial windows, fifteen-foot ceilings), dropped a deposit, filled out the application, and are now waiting for approval. I got the job I wanted in downtown Providence, managing one of the best restaurants in one of the best restaurant cities in the country. It's going to kick my ass... 55 hours a week according to our contract, but the salary is great and there are a shitload of perks. The timeline is going to be tight between apartment approval, move-in date, hiring a moving company, and shipping all of our asses south, but fortunately my parents live in RI so I have a place to crash if something weird happens and I have to start working before we can move. Also, I just spent about $2000 on work clothes: four new suits, eight shirts, eight ties, eight matching pocket silks, three pairs of shoes (cognac, ox-blood, and burgundy colored to round out the brown to black spectrum), so I need to start pulling a few paychecks. Should be all set on clothes for the next ten years, though, with ten suits total with all the matching accessories!

Finally getting a chance to relax in my chair with my scotch, a fat blunt, and the Red Sox on the tube, which makes me happy, but the insanity will resume tomorrow. Have to start packing up the house and get rid of a lot of shit. We're moving from a regular house in the mountains to an industrial loft in the city with very little storage... not good for Mrs. Potvin's wardrobe.

Dude, I am so happy for you! Congratulations!!!:cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader:

Your dream of owning your own restaurant is even closer now. And the view along the way doesn’t sound half bad. Well done, Homes! And I’m jealous as hell that as a guy, you got all those clothes for a mere 2K. :)

ETA: The loft sounds amazing. [shouts] Party at Homer’s!!!!!

Edited because autocorrect is an ass.

We could make it a pot-luck, to give him the night off.

Of course, that would probably make him cry (the food at the pot-luck, not the night off).

Scrivener is installed to my new computer, my test generation software is installed, and there's a shop up the road a bit that can probably recover my data.

For a hundred and thirty bucks.

I better sell this damn novel when I'm done with it.

I've had good luck with Dropbox. I put the important stuff there, and I can get it anywhere. I can replace a dead computer and my stuff is still there.

So long as nobody minds standing. The layout is a weird: a big kitchen with an inconvenient island that barely allows room for a small table. The only real "living" area is in one of the bedrooms, which will have to become the living room. I still can't quite figure how to lay it all out yet.

    Got it:

    She asked me to stay
And she told me to sit anywhere
    So I looked around
    And I noticed there wasn't a chair

From a longtime apartment dweller, sites that will save your ass:

    Apartment Therapy

    Domino

    Ikea

And of course a search on Pinterest.

There'll be seating for four and other chairs available in theory. The place is actually large (1300 square feet), but all the space is in the bedrooms, which I don't understand. We're Italian so we're used to hanging around the kitchen.

It's probably because you're in a city with a lot of colleges. College students are too busy to do a lot of cooking and are never home except to "sleep" or study, so they're looking for bigger bedrooms so they can have roommates and afford better apartments. The apartments were designed the same way when I lived near a major university. Small kitchen, huge bedrooms (ETA: which drove me crazy as well, because I love to cook and have a lot of dishware.)

    Alone at the office!

Probably have at least 30 minutes to myself to just write about bunk beds! Oh, joy :p

I got a new concept for a story today!!! yay. I wrote it down in my Concept Journal since it does not revolve around the planet I created. It actually takes place on an alternate future earth. which is technically a utopia. :p . By my dark sense of the word.
