I too prefer audiobooks, but I don't like e-readers; if I'm going to use my eyes, I'll go for good old paper and ink. I already spend too much time at the computer screen.
File this under the category of pleasant surprise. I no longer practice law but I don't want to give up my license, I guess because I worked so hard to earn it. I finally decided to switch to "inactive" which is half the cost, but I wanted to do anything remotely constituting the practice of law I would have to activate the license and take 30 hours of expensive and mostly boring Continuing Legal Education (CLE) classes. When I called to switch to inactive, I learned that because of my age I am eligible for emeritus status. which means I can practice law without paying my bar fees (except one $8.20 fee) and am exempt from the CLE requirement. Saves me about $1,000 a year. All of which means I can suddenly practice law for free, and don't even have to know what I am doing.* Anybody out there who needs a cheap lawyer? ** *That's the downside of course. I am not exempt from malpractice allegations and would therefore need to get malpractice insurance before doing any complex or risky legal work. **Just kidding, mods and Board of Legal Examiners; I'm not setting up a practice and am not really advertising.
Had a video call with my goddaughter today where she happily showed me her school supplies. Pretty sure she's going to run a Staples when she grows up.
I want to thank my unconscious that in the moments of most anxiety manages to emotionally comfort me through wonderful dream, like no other.
Gonna go to my brother's house this weekend. More quality time with the Goose and her peasants. I'm looking forward to it.
You know how facebook has "memories" and will show you your memories and stuff? I got a memory yesterday from like 6 years ago when i posted a picture to my elementary school's webpage. It was an old picture from 4th grade State Fair. .....i was Rhode Island Wore a sash and everything. Had to spout Rhode Island facts and sing Rhode Island songs. Only thing i remember is, the capital is Providence, its the smallest state, and there is a beach with black sand. Now i can add the lawyer thing to my massive wealth of knowledge on RI
Haha. I didn't know we had those. They probably added a Taylor Swift song when she bought her zillion dollar house in Watch Hill.
Jeebus that's awful... No offense Homer, but can you imagine a gaggle of seven-year-olds trying to sing it? Anthems should be easy to sing and remember, flags should be easy to draw, and Satan only knows how bad Illinois' song is, but I'm off to find out.
Our unofficial song is "Louie Louie." The official one is unspeakably lame. Edit: "Roll On Columbia" is a classic though.
Woof. I guess every State has to have an anthem right? Come by Spruce St and I'll play Voodoo Chile in my underwear and we'll call it the new state song.
I'm working at the high school garden for the first time since Sunday. It's a beautiful late summer day, I have the campus all to myself and I feel ambitious. I know it's only been six days, but goodness I've missed this place.
Just saw a girl in the audience at a WWE match holding a sign that said, Jennifer 3:16. Struck me funny.
This is from a few weeks ago. Nothing was planted this year as the students were pandemicing at the time. But the picnic tables and tree and its seclusion made it a wonderful place to be.
This summer has had its share of stress and emotion (as it has for everyone), but I think I'll remember it at least a little fondly for all the wonderful times I spent there.
