I'm happy because in 12 minutes I get to leave work and go take an hour and half long nap before coming back!! YAY!!!! (blames the caffeine overdose for my over abundance of enthusiasm)
Wow, that's amazing! Congrats! So happy for you. I love nice customers at work. This little old lady, maybe 80 or so, was shopping with her son, and after she paid her change was $0.11, so instead of taking the dime and penny, she looked at me and the cashier and said, "I'm leaving you two a tip!" with a smile, and she looked at me and said, "Maybe you'll get away with the dime!" Made my day, she was so nice.
I love old ladies like that! In my old job, I used to get loads of tips from the elderly customers. I think it's lovely that some of them are so giving, despite the fact they probably don't have alot of money to spare. Every christmas they gave me little presents - and it was always a chocolate orange, LOL. One of them always said "don't get too excited!" as if the thought wasn't lovely enough. I'm glad you're being treated well by some of the customers; it drowns out the rude ones who aren't worth your time. In other news, I got good grades for my second year, so even though I hated most of the modules, I'm happy. Also, I'm extremely proud of my boyfriend, because he's been made the Labour Party candidate for his local election. That's just awesome, especially when he literally just completed his degree. His hard work will pay off for him, I know it; whether it's this year, next year, or the year after - it'll happen.
Congrats to Ash's bf and Banzai! That's pretty cool that they both are candidates. Gigi, is that you and your bf in your new avatar? Hedge, it's a YA fantasy about dimension-travel. That's the novel I've been working on the most over the past few weeks.
If that was meant as witty, then you are just plain awesome LOL. If not then I should prolly tell you It's the same guy, dude. I hadn't looked at previous posts and seen that'd he'd already announced it and got congrats, haha.
This made me LOL Although I can see how she may not have known. You usually just refer to him as Matt
Hehe, thanks for the congrats guys. I don't stand much chance of winning (it's quite a safe Tory seat), but it'll be fun, and the first step in my trying to build up enough presence here to take it from them. And I'm so proud of Ashleigh! She didn't say it, but she got a First (top mark) in the novel writing module of her course. She's done brilliantly, and I hope she's as proud of herself as I am!
Congrats Ashleigh! I was recently made an Uncle for the fourth time. Good thing I'm not scared of children ;p
New York just legalized gay marriage. And Ron Paul & Barney Frank recently introduced a bill that would remove marijuana from the schedule of controlled substances since its addition in 1970, leaving individual states with the responsibility of deciding on legalization and distribution processes. It's not a perfect solution, but it's the first step that would destroy the ridiculous Controlled Substance Act implemented by Nixon with his stupid "war on drugs" forty years ago. Regardless of your stance on drug use and abuse, the Controlled Substance Act is a ridiculous piece of legislature and really makes more problems than it ever attempted to solve. So many drugs on that list don't belong based on the restrictions the government itself designed... I'm so excited that something actually has the potential to be done about it. I cant believe I'm actually happy with our representatives right now...?! What has gotten into me!
YES! Both those things make me so happy, too. Occasionally, you do get surprised by our representatives. I also agree that it's about time for both of those things to happen.
My mom likes a few of the trance DJs that I like (ATB and Above & Beyond, in particular). I play her set lists that I make up when I come home on some weekends, and she really likes it. We've been doing that for a few years now. I mentioned to her today, as we were listening to ATB, that he was in Las Vegas this weekend for Electric Daisy Carnival. I didn't say that I wanted to go to EDC in particular, but just that I'd love to see him perform in person one day. Wanna know what she said? "He's in Las Vegas? Why didn't you tell me?! I would have sent you! Flights to Las Vegas are so inexpensive right now!" "...Seriously?" "Sure! You're going to be 20 this year. You're a good student and have a good job, and you're a responsible lady. You should go have fun! You only live once, and this is your time!" Jaw, meet Floor. Electric Daisy Carnival is a 3-day electronic music festival / rave that has gotten a bad reputation in the news recently after a 15 year old girl died last year in Las Angeles and a 19 year old guy died this year in Dallas. Some organizations and conservative news outlets have even encouraged parents to prohibit their children from going to the festival. In reality, it's not one iota crazier than any other massive rave event, and the kids who died weren't partying responsibly, but all the same... to non-electro kids, and certainly to parents, it can seem a little scary and stuff. I... am seriously thinking about buying a super-early bird 3-day pass for next year, while she's in a good mood and open mind. If you get super early bird, you can get over $100 off the regular price, mostly because the dates and lineup are still usually undetermined at that point. This is awesome. Like I said, I still go to festivals and massives like this anyway, but it'd be nice to not be secretive about it! Maybe I can persuade her to let me go to Ultra.... OMG. *drool*
Hahah! I may have to hit you up in 2012 though! Tell Joel to buy tickets... Once he gets out of his "omg we're so broke" mood, I mean. And we can make it a WF.org part-tay!! Now that she's been so pro-active in me going a little crazy, I am wicked jealous that I'm not there right now!
Hell yeah! Let's all go to the Electric Daisy Festival! (Right? That's what it's called?) And if you guys stay through Monday, you can even come watch me skate.
My Mum and little brother came up for his tenth birthday on Wednesday. They were meant to fly home on Thursday night but due to the ash cliud they stayed longer However, my boyfriend and I had already agreed to drive a car up to Hawke's Bay last night (3 1/2 hour drive) so we left Mum and Liam at the house. We just got home, and she's tidied it (it's spotless now) bought us a new kettle (ours was broken), some potpourri for the bathroom, and there's a vase of flowers on the dining room table. Our house smells so good! It was so nice to come home to!
I saw McFly yesterday with my friend. Well, and Sugababes (who aren't really the Sugababes because there's none of the original members) and City Stereo (supporting McFly).
Have fun!! Aww! Whenever my family comes up to visit, they leave me with a huge mess because there are so many of them and my apartment is too small to contain everyone. But leaving the house messy or clean, it's always nice to have family visit. I'm assuming those are bands...pretty cool that you got to see them! I made a comment on Facebook yesterday about knitting, and two of the girls from my derby league asked me to teach them how to knit. We decided to have a knitting party, and they even said they'd like to get together at my apartment once a month to work on it. I feel a little dorky being as excited about this as I am, but I think this is the first time in a year that someone here in Vegas has been like "hey, can I come hang out with you?" Having friends come over. It's a nice feeling.
