I am very happy to have opened my mail today. Apparently a letter came yesterday that said I had overpaid a medical bill and they sent me a check for $300!!! I am going to put it in my account tomorrow and maybe treat myself to some ice cream.
^Christ, I'd have ice cream if I got a surprise £300! Enjoy it. I'm happy because i'm all settled in to my flat, and matt has stayed for the weekend. Tonight we're gonna snuggle up in my big new bed. Also I've been editing my novel, and I'm a few chapters in. There's lots of red pen on my pages, but that's ok. I'm making progress.
At my new job the payroll lady asked one of the secretaries if I was a college graduate, which I am. They asked me to get my transcript to them to see if they could get me more pay because of it, I didnt think too much of it. Last week my boss pulled me aside, I thought I was in trouble at first. She told me that I owed them a lunch, I've only been there a few months and I already got my first raise. This new job is like the gift that keeps on giving, I have to pinch myself every day to make sure I'm not dreaming. So the lesson in all this is, all the hours of commitment in college may pay off one day somehow.
Motivating words for the freshman. Congratulations on the raise, and I'm glad you're so happy with your job!
thanks ladies... today me and my sis and niece managed to throw a little surprise thingie for our fathers' birthday (but I think he knew) and to think a year ago me and my sister were not even speaking to each other...
I woke up laughing this morning, in the middle of a dream. It set a good mood for my day And my boyfriend FINALLY has a job, which means he'll be able to afford power, which means we get to move into our flat soon!
I'm looking for a job, and I just sent emails to various places and then just some random publishing companies in the area I found a list of too. The responses I got were either saying they had no vacancies or I wasn't suitable or whatever. Anyway, today I got an email from one of the companies who originally said they had no vacancies and they've invited me to come in to take a few tests if I'm interested in a job there as an 'image cataloguer'. Woo, might get a job soon!
Yes, definite good luck to my fellow job seekers, it'd tough out there, for now, I am content in just strumming my guitbox.
Thanks Annuniel and Pallas. I have the interview and tests on Thursday so fingers crossed! Job seeking is tough, especially when everywhere wants you to have experience but you can't get experience if they won't give you a job because you have no experience.. vicious circle. Good luck job seekers.
So many of my interviews effectively ended when I blanked or stuttered to justify my non experience. I'd get the smile and we'll call you back line right after, a few times they would just tell me I failed, so I was at least glad for the frankness. Keep on keeping on.
Tell me about it But most of them just say they want experience and usually settle for those without it. It depends on the position too though.
I had a really good time at two university societies this evening. The first was the Labour Society, which was really good actually. We ended up locked out of the room we were meant to be in, so it had a real socialist feel sat on the floor in the corridor. But there was some good debate about the future of the Party, and what we need to do to win people back, and I really enjoyed it. The second was the Creative Writing Society which I only recently discovered exists. It was a bit odd, but I enjoyed it. I read out a story I'd been working on, and whilst I didn't get the detailed feedback I would have got here, they seemed to like it. Very embarrassing having to read it out though. But yeah, a very enjoyable (and sociable) evening.
I am very happy as my 5 year old daughter wrote her very first story yesterday. It's actually quite good. Today we are working on the illustrations. She has the most fascinating mind and even more fascinating imagination. It is wonderful how she has finally decided to exercise it creatively, by choosing to write.
Aw that's cute Torana. I know what you mean about the imaginations of children, though. When I was around 6 I wrote a story called 'Scaredy Cat' about a cat who was always so frightened then one day he rescued his owner and was so brave that he was cured of his scared disposition! I can't really remember the details but my parents have it in their attic. I illustrated the story and my mum even laminated the cover... serious business you see.
haha! That is so adorable and so sweet that your mother kept it. My daughters was about a Major, named Major Rule who like to rule everything. It's a bizarro piece. I am quite impressed. Her first ever attempt was rewriting the 3 little pigs to be a horror piece... I was disturbed! This one is rather good though and not disturbing. Thankfully!
Good for her! I like her horror take on the three little pigs. I always thought there was a scary undertone to that fairytale so maybe she's pretty perceptive in elaborating upon that. You'll have to keep her 'creations' so she can laugh about them in 20 years.
We are actually going to get her to do a few more little stories, with illustrations, and make up a book and give it to all her grandparents for Christmas this year. We thought it would be a truly wonderful and special Christmas present, and we are of course, going to keep a copy for ourselves. I can't wait to put it together and see the finished product.
I love that idea, when I first started writing as a little kid my parents did something similar and it really encouraged me to keep writing. I'm somewhere between satisfied and ecstatic over the start to this Leaf's season. 'Happy' works for now.
