Aren sat there looking sullen, then blew his nose. Apparently, something on this planet was affecting his sinuses and he was having an allergic reaction because ever since they'd arrived he'd felt sick. And the sudden drama regarding parents was bringing up memories that he didn't like. All together, he was not in a good mood when he turned to Mason.

"Well, it looks to me like if we wanna find the next sphere, either someone is gonna have to volunteer to be snake food, or we gotta cut the thing open and see whats in there," he said. "Any volunteers for getting eaten? Otherwise... it's bye bye snakey. Or we could just, y'know... go home... empty handed."

"I can be the bait, I'm not digestible so I would be in no danger!"

Seven offered, then she turned back to Eudoxia. she poked Eudoxia arm curious about what he had said. "So, are you a mother or a father? and...what am I? Also it seems me and you are different genders judging by our anatomy, does that mean we can create spawn together?" The thought put a smile on her artifcial face.
"I would like that, ya...I would really like that. It would be fun, and if I had to choose a father I'd choose you." She said with an oblivious smile. But then a thought came to her.

"But...how does one make a spawn?"

"Well, this just got awkward..." was all that Aren had to say in reply to Sevens question.

Eudoxia blushed a bit, this was the first time a woman came up to him like this. Eudoxia didn't wanna disappoint Seven so he said, "Sure we can make a spawn together, Seven. I'll explain everything to you when we get back home. After this mission. Okay, Seven?" He really found Seven adorable. He knew they could never have intercourse or make a spawn, but he didn't want to see a frown on her face. He touched her cheek. "I would want you to be the Mother." he said to Seven with a slight smile. "We can't make a spawn like most people, but I can have a spawn with you a different way. After all this blows over, all these missions, and we finish with this organization all together. I promise." he stated. There was no way he would let Seven down. "And no I am no father yet, but I will be one day. Also, you, you are a beautiful young girl." he said to Seven placing his hand on her head.

The Commander listened to everyone's arguments. Many had good reasoning and several of the ideas had merit. Unfortunetly they didn't have the time or the resources to save the Whisps from both the snake version of King Kong and these Tellin People. Finally, she made a decision.

"I want to help these Whisps as much as you do, but we can't. We don't have the time, the resources or even enough information to make a decision that could affect the fate of these people. Remember, we're on a mission and that takes first priority. We'll go with Eudoxia's idea of forcing the beast to throw up the sphere. But that can wait till morning. For now, get some sleep. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow."

Then she noticed Eudoxia and Seven getting all love-birdy. "Eudoxia, Seven. Get your head out of the clouds or wherever they are...that's just an expression to return your attention to what's important...Seven." The commander added. She gave Eudoxia a look that said if he tried something like that with Seven again there would be words between them. The android was a robot for heaven's sakes. Granted it had very realistic artificial emotions, but she wasn't convinced it was alive yet. The last thing she and UNSP needed was some Jumper getting attached to a android that might very well end up being dis-assembled.

Mason slept fitfully, plagued with dreams of cannibal snakes and clawed monkeys. Finally morning came. Elheen graciously served them breakfast and seemed relieved, though sad to hear they would not be killing Zalligar. "Elheen?" Mason asked between mouthfuls of fruit and porridge. "Do you know of anything that could make Zalligar, uh, throw up what ever she may have in her stomach."

Elheen cocked her head thoughtfully. Her orange wings quivered as she hovered in the air. "Let's see now. Ah...yes. I heard a story about such a thing being possible. If I'm right the myth goes that long before the Tellin were a threat several whisps attempted to kill the original mountain serpent, who was the father of Zalligar. They tried to poison it with the juice from a plant called Elbesh. It's a purple fruit deadly to whisps, so they were hoping it might kill the serpent as well. They poured the juice over the body of pony and led the poor creature to the mountain snake's den. The story goes on to say that it worked to a point. The mountain snake became very sick, spewing venom and other such awful things from its stomach, including the very pony it had eaten. But it didn't die." Again a strange mixture of sadness and relief appeared on the whisp's face. "Those whisps didn't get away in time, and were killed by his thrashing.

"Where can we find this Elbesh plant." Mason asked.

"I know the Tellin people harvest it sometimes and eat it. They aren't whisps you see. They're human...like you folk. Apparently it isn't poisonous to them. I would suggest checking out their village. Bayon-yong here can lead you to the outskirts of their village." She guestered to a male whisp about the same age as herself. His wings were green, and seemed to glitter with gold. "Just be careful. They may seem nice but all they care about is themselves." She warned.

"I can lead you now...if you're ready." Bay offered. He had a deep voice for such a small creature.

"Yay! She said jumping up and down then giving him a back breaking hug, she seemed to beam at the idea, she couldn't explain why the idea of making a spawn excited her so much. It didn't make sense, she hardly understood the concept and yet. The idea filled her with so much happiness and zeal, that frankly, she didn't care. Only relenting on her sudden expression of affection when she realizes poor Eudoxia couldn't breath.

Tina barked some orders and Seven just scowled at her. She made it clear she did not like her, and frankly didn't care what she thought.

    ......

The next day Seven didn't even hear them speak of the serpent, she was...day dreaming. and humming as if she were king of the world

Eudoxia frowned at the words from his commander, though he was worried about how she would act once she was free. He planned on letting her go, but he would duke it out with her if she went ballistic. He would have a back up plan to fall back on. "Alright." he responded to Tina. His purple eyes stared into Tina's eyes. He was trying to find a soul the best he could, but he didn't find one. She was obviously alive. There was no way he would let Tina abuse Seven. Though he still worried about Xin.

Eudoxia smiled but was crushed by Seven but the smile never disappeared on his face. He would probably just create an android for the two of them after all the missions. Maybe adopt a child. He didn't wanna disappoint Seven, plus he had no other future plans, besides being a superb inventor. That night he went to Xin to talk to her, but she didn't talk about her parents, but he kept digging, eventually he told her goodnight and that he cared for her feelings and slept. The next day he came into Seven's room. "Is anyone in here?" he asked.

Oxygen intake at 97% the nanobots bleeped, and Xin looked up, clenching her hand as she spied Eudo, "I'm here. Just trying to figure out how these things work . . ." she rubbed around the spot of blood on her palm where she had cut herself, watching curiously as the tiny robots knitted together her skin at a pace that seemed almost impossible.

Flipping out a notebook, she wrote down another note to her list:

They seem to react to the levels of oxygen in the air, giving me advanced healing, movement, and defense as well as sight. I will continue to test just what these things are doing to figure out just what i am limited to.

Hypothesis: levels of oxygen in the air determine the rate of changes made in my bloodstream, and thus my body.

Smacking the cover closed, Xin quickly pocketed the notebook and glanced in Eudo's direction, "Look, I know you want to know more about my parents, but the reports were that they were killed in portular transit to an unknown planet three years after leaving me in the Academy's M.A. department. I don't know anything more, and there's nothing bugging me about them. They took their own risks, and I'll know better than to do the same things they did if they got those results."

Eudoxia was surprised that Xin was in Seven's room. This ruined his chance of trying to reveal how he would stop the EMP to Seven. Though he was glad to see that Xin was okay.

He looked at Xin with dismal in his purple eyes. He put his hands on the back of his head, gripping his brown hair. It would be weird talking to the two in the same room. He knew Seven was close to him, and he had feelings that Xin had something for him. But did Seven love him, did Xin even like anyone. She was such a hard headed girl she hadn't shown much emotion towards the others. He was the only who got an emotion what so ever, did that mean something. "Though, I know you care about them. Don't you, Xin. You care about your parents, I can tell. You don't have to play it off. You miss them, don't you?" Eudoxia asked looking in Xin's direction.

"Negative, your biological functions differ ever so slightly when you mention them, it's indicative of your stress levels rising. It certainly bugs you anyone can see that." Seven responded casually after having just finished recharging her self she got up waved at Edo with a smile on her face, then turned back to Xin. "you couldn't tell?" She asked staring at Xin with sincerity.

"I can lead you now...if you're ready." Bay offered. He had a deep voice for such a small creature.
"No one ever got anywhere by just standing around." Commander Sharp replied. "Let's move." The commander called for the cadets, including Xin, Seven and Edo who were having a private talk in one of the other rooms. She made a mental note to keep an eye on them.

Bay nodded solemnly and led Shadow Squad back into the forest. He held a lantern with an open flame in one hand while pushing branches and ivy aside with the other. He guided them down a nearly invisible path. It was likely rarely used do to the fact they could fly everywhere. A rumbling sound stopped him mid-flight. He dropped into the branches of nearby tree and gestured for Shadow Squad to hide. His face was a picture of fear. At first the cadets only heard it. The sound of trees cracking and falling. The feeling of the earth vibrating underneath their feet. Then the caught sight of it. Or at least part of it. Zalligar. Most of her body was already out of sight, they were simply seeing her tail end. But even that was frightening. Her scales were a mixture of green's and reds. The very tip of her tail was as tall and as wide as a person. If that was just her tip, how big was the rest of her?
"Guess the Whisps weren't exaggerating about her size..." Mason gulped. If they had tried to fight that thing, he was sure at least one of them would have been swallowed whole before they managed to defeat it.

    --------------------

Half an hour later the group found themselves in a clearing. A large and somewhat advanced city lay in the valley below them. But what really caught their eye was the statue right in front of them. It was carved from marble, in the shape of a hand grasping a planet. It looked to be several hundred years old.

"This statue is an altar to the Zallins. They were the rulers of this galaxy for hundreds of years. We named Zalligar after them because she's as much as a terror as they are." Bay explained. "They claimed to be gods and enforced their rule on every planet. Anyone who stood against them were killed. There are stories about whole planets being wiped out for speaking against them. But about 300 years ago they inexplicably disappeared. From the stories of our ancestors the galaxy fell into chaos after having their rulers suddenly disappear. It didn't take long though for each planet to learn to rule themselves again. We were happy and glad that false gods were no longer ruling us and telling us what to do. We even tried to tear this thing down but it's made of a rock we can't seem to break." Bay sighed sadly.

"Anyway, 100 years ago they suddenly returned with a vengeance. Their influence and domination started all over again. It's strange though. 300 years ago the goal of the Zallin rule had seemed to be they wanted to be the galaxy’s gods. But when they returned, things changed. They demand things like precious metals and crops. In exchange they protect their most devout followers with protection and access to the galactic trade system. But unlike before they don't try and rule each planet individually. Perhaps this time they’ve gained a heart, though they still don’t hesitate to wipe out a village or city should anyone speak out against them."

"They sound horrible." Mason said. "We've heard stories about them on our planet but nothing this bad. Our history says that no one has ever actually seen a Zallin in person. Rather they work through a proxy. An race called the Xorins. Right?"

Bay nodded. "The Xorins are as much their servants as we are...but they get special privileges for being the Zallin's right hand. There are rumors that the Tellin people are one of the Zallin's protected. If you see a pendament, like this statue, hanging on their neck be extra careful. It means there servants of the Zallin." Bay suddenly pointed to the village. "This is as far as I take you. You should find the Elbesh plant somewhere in the village there. Mind you, it will need to be in liquid form so you can pour it on an animal to feed to Zalligar. May the Creator protect you." Bay nodded his head and disappeared back into the jungle.

As they traveled on foot, Edo felt the world under him begin to shake. His purple eyes scanned for the source, and he saw it. A while away he saw the tip of the Zalligar's tail. "Ehhh?" he said confused. He had imagined that it would be large; big, not humongous. He knew the team would need air cover. Though it wouldn't be much, he released his eight MicroBots into the air and they followed the beast as they went into the village.

He heard what Bay had said about the symbol. He wasn't sure whether to treat people with it nicer or not. He didn't really care for the Zallin, but he didn't wanna start an intergalactic war. He also head about how the Zalligar was named after the Zallin. He was not impressed, he had guessed that. Though, he was still surprised at the size of the snake. This fight would take all he's got. He watched bay fly away and asked, "Aren't we supposed to have a Whisp near when we fight this snake after we poison it?"

"I am impatient, lets just get this over with can we?" Seven said looking slightly bored. Though she did pay attention to the story, and it perked more questions with in her, she thought of asking Tina, but the thought of wringing that humans soft neck was too powerful to risk going near that creature, so she asked Mason instead.

"Pardon me human, er Mason. do you mind telling me, why you organics are fighting one another? For all this talk of war and missions I don't believe I know why you are fighting in the first place."

Pardon me human, er Mason. do you mind telling me, why you organics are fighting one another? For all this talk of war and missions I don't believe I know why you are fighting in the first place."

"Uh...well." Mason replied trying to think as they walked down the hillside towards the city. "First off, you've got to understand that not all organics are the same. There are many versions of us and we all have different beliefs and ways of life and morals. This often leads to disagreements with can lead to war. It just happens sometimes. Earth used to be like that. All 5 nations were extremely poor and each one wanted to get out of poverty and save it's people from dying. They thought the only way to do that was to steal the other nation's resources. They tried to work together...but peace never lasted long. Until the United Nations Space Program discovered other worlds and started trading with other planets. Now we have plenty of food and resources to go around, and there is no war. Hasn't been for over 80 years. These missions to other planets help make sure we still have peace and to make friends with people on other planets." Mason shifted the pack on his back. "Humans or organics as you call us, don't fight unless we feel we have to. Or at least we try not to."

Seven thought for a moment "I don't see the logic behind stealing food from some humans to feed other humans, I thought you were all equal in life, that seems, illogical. Also, if things are so good as you say, then why are we on a mission for?"

Mason sighed and shook his head. Androids could never understand. "Well, we're on this particular mission to find a weapon and keep it out of enemy hands. Else someone else could find it and use it against us. You see, Seven. Humans typically let their emotions, not logic, guide them. That's one of the main reasons humans believe robots or androids like you, can never be alive. And why organics such as animals are not on the same level as humans." He shrugged his shoulders. "If you're going to prove you're alive, you've gotta show our superiors that you have emotions, feelings, a...soul. Right now you just appear to be a robot with artificial pre-programmed emotions."

Seven frowned. "Just because I'm not an idiot doesn't mean I don't feel, it simply means I'm not an idiot. Like being illogical is any cause to believe you are more alive then me? How... ilogical."

Mason rolled his eyes but had to laugh. "Maybe it is illogical. But it's how humans work. And the fact that we act on our emotions sometimes doesn't mean we're idiots either. Sometimes, emotions are the only thing we can use when there doesn't seem to be a logical answer. That's another main difference between humans and machines. Not everything can be decided through facts and numbers. Sometimes it takes personal morals and feelings. Take this question for instance. You have the chance to save the life of only one person. A baby or adult human. You can only save one. Who do you choose?"

"It depends, if the adult is a higly trained doctor you would save him for he in turn would save more lives, but let's assume they are both equal in what they could contribute to society, in that case then it would not matter which one you saved since both are equally valuable. In short, flip a coin to choose and be done with it."
Seven nodded. "See? that wasn't so hard now was it?"

Mason shook his head, "That was actually a really good answer. Completly void of emotion but a good answer none the less."
Then he guestured to the cadets who had gotten ahead of them. "C'mon. We better get moving or we'll be left behind."

"You'll be left behind, I have super speed." Seven bragged and dashed of back towards the others but before getting too far she stopped and yelled.
"So in order to prove I am alive I have to do something stupid right? how bout I give Tina a swift kick to the ass out of anger, would that do it?"

"You don't have to be stupid to prove you have emotions!" Mason yelled after her. "And if you do that I'm pretty sure she'd activate that bomb you've got in your head before you could say, 'See. I'm alive!'. You'd better think of something else."

"Well following your emotions and not your reasoning is pretty damn stupid, ahh forgett it you humans are too confuseing to bother mimicking." Seven threw her hands in the air in defeat and head back to the others sticking her tongue out at Tina along the way.

Eudoxia walked down the hillside towards the village with the rest of the group. He walked between Aren and Xin. He looked back to see Mason and Seven walking slower behind the rest of the group. Eudoxia smiled a bit as his purple eyes set back on the village. He was disappointed that they would not be fighting the Zilligar. And him bringing it up did not make her change her mind. He set his hand into the air, and all his MicroBots flew back to him an into his pocket. He looked at Xin and then back at the two who were talking behind the rest. He was glad that Seven began to make some more friends, no one else really seemed to generally like her. But now, he had no reason to worry. He wasn't worried about the snake, even though it was in his mind. He was thinking about the promise he had made to Seven, how would he keep it?

He then set his head back on the mission. He felt bad that he had gotten in so much trouble with his commander. He walked over to Tina and spoke to her on his own behalf for probably the first time, "Commander, sorry about before. I will not be insubordinate, though I do respectfully disagree with you on some points." he stated.

"Commander, sorry about before. I will not be insubordinate, though I do respectfully disagree with you on some points." he stated.

The Commander looked down at Eudoxia. A small scar above her left eye was barely visible do to the black hair falling across her forehead. "It's not your job to agree, but to follow orders. I do, however, accept your apology." She was silent for moment then spoke again with a kinder tone, "I can see that you've grown fond of Seven. But I want you to be careful. She has those items in her head for a reason. If she were unleashed there is no telling what horrors she could commit. Especially if she is an A.I. and not sentient as she claims. Seven could even kill you if she had half a mind to. I hope you can understand the position I'm in. It's my duty to protect you cadets first and foremost. I can't afford to give Seven the benefit of the doubt. Not yet at least. I too have orders to follow."

He understood what his commander was preaching. He then glanced in his commander's direction again, but this time speaking to her on an equal level. This was the first time he actually paid attention to the beauty of this team's leader. His purple eyes were set on her, but instead of getting caught up he asked the question he had in his subconscious. "Commander Tina. I understand what you're saying. We all have to follow our directives, but ask yourself a question for me. Do you honestly believe because she is an android, she's not alive. I mean think about it, has anyone from the UNSP actually proved she is an A.I.? And even if so, how do you know where if she comes from, she is alive? She obviously has emotions. Just because she is something new doesn't mean we should treat her different or discard her. If we discarded everything that was new to us, where the hell would we be today? In a dark cave without any light from a fire. And if we treated her different because of what she was, well that's just plain racist." he stated with a serious voice, it had no play in the tone at all. And he was dead serious and stood by what he was saying. "Don't be racist." he continued with a smirk on his face and in a playful tone.

Xin gave Eudo a good smack to the back of his head, making the cadet stumble. " She knows that! What she means is that she isn't taking any chances no matter what Seven is. The same results would have occurred even if Seven was human!"

Xin couldn't help it, but she was smiling. Eudo had made her admit the fact that she did miss her parents, but in the way that she missed that she had never gotten to know them very well.

Oh well, these guys may prove to be as good as any family yet. she thought.

"I highly doubt they would have put a bomb in my head if I were a fleshling." Seven sneered as she stumbled across the conversation she glared at Xin with an intense anger, but smiled at Edo. "I think now is a good time." She said giving him a wink.

Eudoxia was hit in the head hard by Xin. It was quite unpleasant, though not painful. He held the back of his head, and wined "Oww oww oww!" playfully. He then looked at Xin with a playful look in his eyes.

She knows that! What she means is that she isn't taking any chances no matter what Seven is. The same results would have occurred even if Seven was human!"

"What ever you say, Xin. Though, you didn't have to hit me, just trying to get to know my commander better by having a conversation with her." he stated in a playful voice even though what he had just said was not his motive at all. He was really trying to make Tina think about what she is doing and what orders she happens to be following. He then looked at Xin and plucked her forehead.

"I highly doubt they would have put a bomb in my head if I were a fleshling." Seven sneered as she stumbled across the conversation she glared at Xin with an intense anger, but smiled at Edo. "I think now is a good time." She said giving him a wink.

Eudoxia noticed that Seven got mad at Xin, and also that she suggested that now was a good time. He walked over to her and put his hand over her face pushing her away from Xin. He then looked at Seven, he was confused on whether she meant a good time to help with the EMP protection or for the spawn. But then he thought about what she said, "She was just kidding about the bomb thing!" he said trying to make sure not too many people knew about what the USNP did to her. It could cause some problems. He then tried to talk to Seven, "Don't tell too many people about the bomb, I don't even know how Adwiata found out. Also, a good time for what, Seven?" he asked confused on what she was implying.

"To get rid of the emp's of course" Seven said with a chuckle, "What else? I am to gain my freedom I at least need to be able to do things with worrying about being shut down by my captors." a smile crossed her face, "Then we'll be one step closer to being free, and we can leave these jerks behind."

Eudoxia looked at Seven and sighed. "A little quieter." he insisted, putting his pointer finger over Seven's mouth. "We have to do it when I get back to your room, okay?" he asked.

Xin's eyes narrowed again as she heard just another mention of removing the bomb from Seven. Pausing several feet away from the two to make it obvious that she shouldn't have heard their whispering had she been normal, she glared at them out of the corner of one eye.

"One. Seven, if you ever want to go at it I'd be glad to. But it would best be saved for earth. And two-" her eyes darkened and for a moment a cold expression crossed her face as Xin drew her sword out, letting the blade shine in the sunlight.

Suddenly, it was as if she could control everything, even the nanobots in her bloodstream. They sparked and went haywire, and an electric pulse emanated from her like a radio frequency. Pulse increasing. All oxygen diverted to movement speed.

I will not tolerate dissent and rebellion.

"Don't think you aren't heard, Eudoxia. Seven. This is the second time, and the third will not be tolerated," she hissed, slashing the sword through the air so fast that the human eye could not track it as it spliced a tree in half. Her heart stammered and halted for a moment, and her face was a bit paler in color when she sheathed it. The nanobots went back to normal, but her body was numb, vibrating with energy as if she was full of adrenaline.

Turning, she walked away, letting the tree gradually slide to one side, then topple to the ground. It had been a young one, but it had still been at least two men thick.

She had been careful not to strike one that belonged to a Wisp family.

Eudoxia arms crossed while looking at Xin, it seems she knew what the UNSP did to Seven, but could care less. He was surprised, he thought Xin might have a little more compassion. He then looked at Xin with a glance of preparation in his eyes. He then watched her performance. As the tree fell, before it had gotten the chance to hit the ground, his digital sword was already in his hand. "We have nothing to fight about. I don't understand why you're so mad." he reassured and stated to Xin. His eyes looked deep into her's, "No reason to fight what so ever." he restated. He didn't know something like this could happen before he even made any adjustments to Seven's body. He liked Xin to, he didn't want to have an 'argument' with her.

Xin's eyes narrowed, "Then don't speak of things that hint at betrayal. It is Commander Tina's orders that Seven be kept under control. By removing that control, you are undermining her authority and thus possibly releasing a potential threat to our world."
